Default BIG 40s on BIG 80s

I noticed today that Big 80s now has a weekly "on this date in 1980 whatever" countdown show((this week featuring 1984). Nina Blackwood hosts the Big 40 on the Big 80s each Saturday afternoon. It started with the Totally 70s Satellite Survey on Totally 70s last year. Lets hope they add a weekly countdown show to Sirius Gold and 60s Vibrations also. Thx Sirius!

That is really cool to know that they are doing that now. I really enjoy their format of that show on the 70s station, to add it to the 80s too is a huge bonus.

And I seem to have reported it here on SBS before another blog site featured it as news. I actually got a scoop?

You know, back in '02, XM 80's on 8 used to do the original "American Top 40" shows. The would play them in the middle of the day. Sometime around 11am CST. But them I guess too many people called in and complained, because after the New Year, they took it off.

I always thought it was cool because you'd hear songs that maybe only charted for a week, and were gone the next. Songs that I forgot about. And listening to Kasey Kasem was cool, too.

It wasn't that they got too many complaints, but instead that Premiere Radio Networks stopped distributing the old AT40's at the end of '02. I'm with you - those were cool.

I remember Listening to AT40 back in the 80's. I loved listening to the show. The little local station here used to air the old show's kinda like what xm did until they were no longer available.

Anyone here remember Kasey Kasem doing America's top 10 on saturday mornings I watched that too.

No, but I remember "Solid Gold".

My ex-wife used to say she wanted to be a "Solid Gold" dancer when she was a kid. Now that's funny!

Actually, they started airing it a week ago, with the first year (obviously) 1980. Nina Blackwood was asking for comments whether or not it should be kept. I called in and placed my vote of confidence in the show. This past weekend was 1984 and next weekend is 1987 and the official "first show," according to the Sirius site.

With the "Big 40" and "Totally 70's Top 30," this is like hearing portions of XM's "IT" each weekend.

I heard 84 and missed 87. I love how each of the channels are becoming so well defined and independant of the service as a whole. It was so great hearing many of the songs from 84 that get no/little airplay normally on The Big 80's. What is the deal with Martha Quinn's show? Caught it once or twice and it is really nothing more than the songs we normally hear.

I love the countdown shows too, but I notice a lot of the music from the mid to late eighties has not aged well. Lots of loud drums and jarring synthesizers!
