Unhappy 11/15/06 Radio 1 SQ

The sound quality for Radio 1 is so poor today. I hope that this is temporary. It's usually just as good as any other music channel. Today it sounds like a talk station.

Yup, I noticed. VERY VERY flat with distorted bass. It's almost like Sirius pulled the feed off radio 1's website. Also, the song display was stuck on "Christina Agulera" most of the day.

Because they still hadn't done anything to the channel by the time I left work, I decided to call them..... Oh god, what a nightmare!

CSR flat out told me NOTHING was wrong with Radio 1. She then asked me for my exact location. I asked why? She said the techs, "need it so the techs can clear up the radio signals through the repeater at my radio's location." Yeah, that'll fix a source audio problem! The really funny thing is that I told her that my location was Rochester, NH. I don't actually live there, but I use my my folks address for my billing address. I now live in Houston, TX. Anyway, the kicker is that there aren't any repeaters witin 60 miles of Rochester (NH). When I told her this her response was, "It goes through the repeater nearest to you." LOL These reps are a joke! They don't even have a ballpark clue as to how Sirius works. It's PATHETIC. Anyway, after giving the rep a brief education, I was then asked, "What was that channel again?" WOW... all I gotta say is WOW!

So I hung up and called back. This time I got a different rep. The rep took my acct info, then a minute of silence later, she put me on hold without saying a word. I was on hold for two minutes when she finally came back on the line. This time without saying a word, she disconnected me.

I call back again. This time I speak with Latasha. Latasha was nice, but didn't even so much as ask for my acct info. I asked to speak with a supervisor. Latasha said her sup was gone for the day. I then asked for a lead. Latasha ignored my request. She then proceeded to tell me that all SQ complaints must be sent via e-mail. She added that she is "Just customer service". She then began searching through the Sirius website for the e-mail address. She then puts me on hold. Finally, after 3 minutes of holding I hang up.

Great job Sirius Customer Service! I'm sure Sirius will maintain a high subscriber rate with class acts like yourselves!

yes- its my favorite channel, so this is killing me. after 3 calls to CS I found out that they have the status of BBC Radio 1 as being "Updated".....

should be fixed in the next 48 hours but they had no time frame. The issue happened around 9ish last night EST.....not that I listen a lot or anything. the sound quality is horendous though...

Yeah, I was upset and called too. I listen to "Radio 1" pretty much all the time. The problem happened on Tuesday (11/14) in the evening during Collin Murray's show. The feed went down and Sirius went to that generic music tape they have from Radio 1 that just has music and Radio 1 id's. This played for awhile and when the feed came back on, it was horrible (the 20k internet stream from Radio 1's website sounded better than this).

Anyway, as I said, I was upset too, after it stayed that way until the next day, so I called and complained as well. Well, looks like it is fixed this morning (11/16). And to my surprise, guess what? My S50 is now allowing recordings on Radio 1 again. YESSSSS!!!!! I am hoping that this problem was due to the fact that Sirius finally got off their butt and corrected the artist/title info so that the S50's will now record the channel again. As many know, the S50's would no longer record Radio 1 since they added the title/artist info a couple of months ago. I had given up on Sirius addressing this problem since they seem to have given up on us S50 owners. But I'm hoping that this mess yesterday was due to their correction of the recording problem.

Anyway, all I know is that the sound quality is back to normal now, and my S50 is once again recording the channel. So I'm perfectly happy. Please, Sirius, don't mess with Radio 1 again. I'm hoping that the ability to record again isn't just a fluke and that it goes away when the problem is completely fixed. (I did notice that the display was locked up again for several hours this morning, showing The Streets' "Fit But You Know It" on the display for hours). Oh well, if I have to choose between being able to record Radio 1 on my S50 and having artist/title info, I'll gladly take the recording ability. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the problems are corrected for good now (on both the sound quality and recording issues).

(Oh, btw, when I called Sirius, I told them that I was upset with the constant problems and that I had 3 prepaid yearly subscriptions and that the ONLY reason I subscribed was for Radio 1. I also told them I was going to cancel if they couldn't get this channel's constant problems straightened out).

I tend to give them a little leeway because it is a somewhat complicated delivery method. However, there is still no excuse for not having some form of redundency of the same caliber as the main feed.

They are still having song title problems.

Jimmy Buffet was stuck on my Radio 1 artist information screen for a couple of days. At first I thought Scott Mills was actually playing a Buffet tune before I realized it was freaky mistake. It was amusing though.
