Post Dramatic change on Hits 1 ?1!?!

sO, IT IS ABOUT 12:30 Central time here in wisconsin, and as i am listening to sirius hits 1 ive noticed that they are now playing that i have not heard on this station in a while (with more variety) I LOVE IT!! Also, as i am listening ive heard about 6 or 7 songs (and counting) simultaniously that have not had DJ or promo interruptions in between the songs.

I hope this is the start of a much needed format change for Hits 1!!

Keep it up Sirius!
P.S. Can anybody confirm this as a format change??

I've heard it as well, they were playing some good older hits that I hadn't heard in a while, plus fewer breaks as well. Also I've noticed for the last month or so, Hits 1 has to have the highest bit rate of any music station out there, I change channels on my ST2 and I have to turn the volume down, it's that much louder. So keep up the great work Sirius!

I got an alert for a song the other day and it was on hits1, and it sounded much clearer and louder then Octane, it was a night and day difference. the sound is great, and I think the selection is getting better too, from what little I heard.

Yea, I've noticed some older hits too like they would play on XM's Hitlist. And it is louder and clearer than a lot of other stations. Hitlist still kills 20 on 20 and Hitlist for the newest music and now that they're adding older hits to the mix, this will turn out to be the best hit stations ever!! Keep it up Sirius!!!!!

Why do some channels sound better than others? I like listening to the comedy channels (Ch 105). during the talk, i can deal with it sounding "tingy" but when they play comedy music, it sounds awful.

It's fairly simple, Sirius has limited bandwith to deal with, so they have to give a lower bitrate (ie poorer sound) to the talk channels (except for Howard Stern), then they give a higher rate to the music channels. Then as we've noticed certain music stations have higher rates than others, Sirius Hits 1, and the Pulse, seem to have some of the highest. While they might skimp on some of the less popular stations. It's a neceassary evil.

It doesn't make sense to me that, a station like octane, which has a lot of stuff going on in its music a lot of times has a poor sound a lot of the time. I think it's a popular enough station to get bumped up in quality and have them level everything out so vocals and guitar don't kill eacother and sound low and muddy. It's a shame.

I own a stiletto sl100 and can stream via wifi, (same as connecting at sirius.com) and it may just be me but I think hits 1 is also higher quality on internet radio... I have not tried on my computer yet... I also tried flipping through a few stations and it is pretty noticable difference from starlite to hits 1!!! woohoo sirius!

You don't want everything leveled out -- trust me. Dynamic range compression kills the music -- we've been through it with Sirius before (XM is going through this now). Did you subscribe when it all used to sound really bad?

All of the vocals and guitar will kill each other no matter what. Octane is ran around what the other channels are ran at in the rock genre. The thing is, when more instruments play, audio performance is killed by the codec at lower bitrates. Hits does get a higher bitrate, but even if hits was as low of bitrate as "octane", it would still sound better due to the simple fact that it has fewer instruments playing at once. The issue with music on octane is all the electric guitar. It sounds light years better than it used to.

Hits 1 is higher quality on Internet Radio (Premium); they all are.

Also, Howard's music doesn't sound that good -- in fact, it sounds far worse than music on Octane or even our worst channels.

I like Sirius's sq for the most part every channel sounds good and even the weather stations are understandable. XM doesn't care what there channels sound like sometimes in my op. I know on xm411.com though I've read people who would debate me on that, but there is just something about there sq that drives me nuts to listen to. I don't however think the Pulse is that high quality I allways have to turn my reciever up when listening to it.

I have noticed the big jump in SQ on Hits 1 as well. You do have to turn it down a bit.

THATS what all the channels should sound like.

Wait a minute. You know how SBS does "Walk the Dog?" Sirius should do their own version of walk the dog. Every other day a new channel is given Hits 1's bandwidth, so that would make folks check out a new channel that they otherwise may not hear.

Plus, you can make it a game. Don't announce the next "Walk the Dog" channel. You get up, turn on the radio, and start flipping till you hear the bump in SQ.

Still lots of repeats as should be expected for this type channel. But I am hearing a lot of older songs on Hit's 1 that I haven't heard in awhile. This is a move in the right direction.

Here in the past couple of weeks, I've found myself leaving it on Hits1 for longer and longer periods.

That is until Chamillionaire comes on and I remember why it's so hard for me to listen for an extended period of time.
