Default Time for an active rock channel

There is a large gap in the rock category. An active rock channel blending the best
of the punk, alternative, buzzaw and octane is needed. Since the rock genre have been so divided up , the repetition on those stations are huge. There is also the problem of new singles by classic artists. No where to go. For instance , AC\DC puts out a new
single and it becomes a problem for airplay. It can not be played on Buzzsaw because it
is not classic , yet they are not an artist played on Octane. An active rock channel would
solve this.

Hell NO if anything we need to merge a few of the rock channels to be added to some other genres.

Octane passes as active rock. IMO, it's the way active rock SHOULD be: hard, mostly current and with some gold content.

I agree with DAB.

I would whole heartedly support the merging of, say, 14 and 15 if they brought up a Prog (classic, modern and metal) channel.

This is one reason I didn't choose Sirius (and wound up dropping XM) is because of too much rock. I'd say Hair Nation, Buzzsaw need to be combined. Hard Attack and Octane need to be combined, along with dropping the Audio Abortion that is faction completely.

Now that we have a dedicated Punk channel, definitely drop Faction. Move the action sports personalities to some talk channel. Then add one of the non-rock genres that is missing.

I like having Octane and Buzzsaw being separate. If AC/DC puts out a good new song, it could fit on Octane.

Keep Vinyl and Rewind separate as well.

I love how everyone wants to merge the stations they don't listen to. I mean how many country stations do we need? Don't they all play the same thing?

Well lets see 4 country channels, 30 rock channels. There is just absolutely NO doubt that SIRIUS has overkill in their Rock channel category. It doesn't matter if I listen to the channels or not, but the only way one could make recommendations as to which ones should be combined is if we listened to them. There are some channels that are only so slightly different that YES combining them to free up that channel for use in other genres is feasible. I have personally listened to all the rock channels at one time or another, do I listen to them everyday NO. But I have listened to them enough to know there could be some combining. The 4 country channels are very, very distinctive. Considering that XM has what 7 or 8 country channels to SIRIUS's 4. Don't even get me started on the R&B channels, not to mention we have no folk and other genres that are just totally missing. OH but we got 30 rock channels that are just slightly different from one another. This isn't rocket science it is just common sense.

I love Rock, and a lot of the channels in the category, but totally disagree that we need yet another new one. Merge some stations or dorp one before adding another. I like listening to Faction, but think it could be dropped and it's talk content moved to some other channel in the talk/entertainment category. It's music is just all overlap anyway. Keep Ellis, Tony Hawk, and Bam and the others and throw them someplace else to do their shows, and eliminate the channel so we don't have 3 channels to choose from to hear the same songs. You can hear the majority of Factions music on Octane, Alt Nation, Punk 29, or the Rap stations.

Just my two cents.

Coffee House plays some folk and is lumped into the Rock category.
However, I've complained about what the original poster is saying.
If AC/DC puts out a new album. Hell, let's say this Led Zeppelin reunion thing went REALLY well and they decided to record and release a new album in 2008.
Where's it going to go?
Not Classic Rewind.
Not Buzzsaw.
Not Hair Nation.
Not Octane.
Not Hard Attack.

...you get my drift. I think this is what the OP was referring to. It's a problem for Sirius listeners. All the new rock on Octane sounds alike to me and the newer stuff is typically younger bands.
Rumor has it Jethro Tull is releasing a new album this year, too.

New rock like that from older bands will get Octane Airplay. Only because it's the only place it can be thrown into.

IIRC, when Rush released their last album, all the singles went to Octane.

Octane has no problem with new cuts from classic artists. In the past few years, they've played new Motley Crue, Sixx:AM (Nikki Sixx of the Crue), Another Animal (lead singer of Ugly Kid Joe) and Sebastian Bach (Skid Row).
