Well it's what they listen to, and in their opinion (I suppose), if they can do that genre right, they can do all of them well. Well ya see, I live in Central CT during the summer/winter, and during the school year I attend (plug_ON) Marist College, a fine college establishment (plug_OFF), based in the heart of gorgeous, ahem, Poughkeepsie, NY. Actually Marist is in the really nice section of Poughkeepsie, closer to Hyde Park. But all around here I see Sirius all over the joint, though, ironically enough, I rarely see Sat Radio on any of the student's cars (And this is a pretty affluent school).

I don't have either XM or Sirius yet...but so far, I'm not sure if I'd like either's metal channel. XM seems to have little variety, and while Sirius seems to have more with the classic metal included, based on what you all have mentioned here, it still doesn't seem like it covers the best areas of metal.

Where's the progressive metal (Dream Theater, Symphony X, Everygrey, Vanden Plas, Pain of Salvation,)? Where's the power metal (Blind Guardian, Sonata Arctica, Rhapsody, Stratovarius, Wuthering Heights, Nightwish, Dream Evil)? Where's the melodic death metal (In Flames, Soilwork, Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom, Immortal Souls)? Where's the best death/black metal bands, such as Opeth, Carcass, Extol, and Death? What about the unique, but sill good metal bands, such as Therion and Sigh?

Does Sirius play any of this, or am I out of luck?

Having VERY little time spent on Hard Attack, I can say for sure that I have heard these bands on there. I don't know of any others, but my total time on Hard Attack in the last several months is probably under an hour, so me not hearing them doesn't mean a thing...

How about the more melodic styles such as progressive and power metal? Anyone heard any Stratovarius or anything on there?

You might want to PM BeyEhmVey. It seems to me he's the resident Hard Attack expert/enthusiast.

Hard Attack is the primary stream I listen to, so I'll try to help you with your list...

The only one I haven't heard from this list is Vanden Plas. But I'm sure they have some songs by them.

I've heard Nightwish, Blind Guardian and possibly Rhapsody on there, but not sure about the others. You can request the songs by email to see if they have the other bands available.

I've heard all these bands on HA except for Immortal Souls, but that doesnt mean they haven't played them.

Yes to all these bands!! Also every weeknight at 10 is a program called Beyond the Pit which focuses more on the brutal death metal bands like Obituary, Cattle Decapitation, Darkthrone, and others.

Therion I've heard on there, but not Sigh. Again, they may have it available if you send in a request email.

Hope this helps in your decision to go with the

Thanks for the info everyone...I was just under the impression based on what had been posted here that this station doesn't play any of the metal bands that I like. Looking back through the posts, I did see mentions of Death, Carcass, and Opeth...but no one had mentioned any melodic metal bands yet, so I figured that didn't play any. Sounds like they do though. How often do they play stuff like Blind Guardian and Rhapsody?

And that "For Musicians Only" channel sounds really cool as well.

Yes - I am a Hard Attack-addict - I listen when ever I can, home, car, online! Just can't get enough metal.

I think I have heard Stratovarious, definitely heard Death, Carcass, and Opeth, and in a blue moon, some Iced Earth.

On another thread, mzmtg, was asking for more industrial/goth, so I shot a note to Jose (the PM) and his response was great idea - he was going to work with one of the SJs to work in an Industrial/Goth show.

If you want to hear more of those groups, you need to request it. There is so much metal out there these days.

XMLM plays a solid half hour of metal rap at 4 PT M-F. KMK, Phunk Junkeez, ICP, Hed PE, Methods of Mayhem, etc. with a sprinkling of Body Count, NWA, Ice T, The Goats, etc. The show is called Compoton and Cleaver lays it down straight for these 30 minutes.

Does HA have a metal rap show? Just curious.

No they don't and no offense, thank god! That show would come on right as I was driving home every night and it drove me nuts.

They should have moved it to later at night. The Rust show was a joke, too. They played 3 songs amongst the commercials and all the stupid talk. I know there is SJ chatter on Sirius but they are usually imparting useful information about bands, etc...., but on Rust I just did not get the point.

As for Metal Rap, when Jose is on, he plays some from time to time (I think).

If Compton (30 minutes a day) is the only thing keeping you with XM, oh well, but if you want true metal (from beginning to current) then you should listen to Hard Attack. I think they have a great mix, certainly more diverse than XM.

Granted, I don't know what XMLM is doing these days but their crowning achievement (IMHFO) was when they did the 24 REDUM show. I caught maybe an hour of it and it sounded much different than the majority of the music they played.

The show did say one thing - most of their listeners wanted music they never play. Music I hear on Hard Attack.

I admit, I am an Old School Metal Head but I love the new stuff, too. Its hard, its heavy, and to quote Jose (from last night 12/23). it F*CKING BRUTAL!!!!!

If you are this far, perusing the Sirius boards, then you are obviously sick of XM (and XMLM probably has not changed). XMLM's only attraction is that they swear profusly. You hear swearing on HA but its within context - they guys on XMLM seem to go out of their way to swear. Who cares? And one more thing - where is the metal scene? New York and LA, and where is XMLM? DC, kind of off the beaten path. Too close to the Gov't for me!

So, why not get SERIOUS and get SIRIUS! And stop fooling around with those wannabes down in DC.

But where else can I hear "KKK Bitch" by Body Count? If Jose plays this on HA I will have gained some respect. This is "old school" too.

Body Count would definitely sound better in a metal context than when segregated on Compton. Any music show that feels the need to apologize and say ''f--- you if you don't like it'' before every show probably ain't the best idea.

Nice sales pitch... but wrong.

Now go back to listening to all the old skool stuff on Hard attack and leave the youger crowd to enjoy all the new shit XMLM has to offer. I will listen to Da Boneyard when I want the older stuff.
