Default The Trend is Your Friend

Just heard a favorite by Marley earlier tonite 'Could You Be Loved'.

I love the mix of classics, new stuff, blues and reggae.

Caught B.B. King 'The Thrill Is Gone' and Led Zeppelin 'D'yer Maker' a few days ago.

I love Elise Brown, Delphine Blue and everyone who works hard to make The Trend something special.

This is a model for good radio, the mix is perfect and the imaging rocks too.

Jeff, you remember back in February when they changed the Trend. We all went crazy... and look at it all these months later after the tweakings. You are right its really become one of my favorites, but GOSH to be honest I have so many. But it is in my top 10 presets.

Yep, sometimes you just need to let go and let them work their magic.

It's tough though, even I indulge in the protectionism sometimes. This is our baby after all.

And although we are still yelling about Nineties on 9, (and we are), Sirius seems much more reponsive to listener concerns than any of the large radio stations or station companies in the USA. They are, after all, responsive to us, their customers, NOT the people who pay for the ads on the music streams.

Why? There are NO people who pay for ads on the music streams. Some day, after the competitor can sell many more ads, it will be interesting to see how much influence the advertisers there have on the music and programming selections. Any one advertiser will certainly have more influence than any one listener, no matter how much the company may protest otherwise...

Good analogy. Sometimes if feels like we love to whip the child for bad behavior rather than give it some time to grow up and learn better :\

The Trend is one of my favorite streams on Sirius...but they could do more in reducing the repetition and adding more great songs...

As have I. The new(2002-3) songs have been lowered it seems, for the 30-40 minutes I have listened today. I have also seen several songs added to the playlist.

The Cure's, Pictures of You is one of my favorites...seems to fit well on The Trend.

Makes me wonder if Richard Blade programs more than one channel for Sirius.

The song is great. It has that not-so-upbeat feel that is nice to have every once in a while.

And finally a Chili Peppers tune other than The Zephyr Song.

The trend has definitely increased the playlist in the last few days.

It is sounding pretty good.

I really like the Trend a lot, but I do think it could be even better if they would increase the amount of new stuff they play and cut the repitition I'm with BenDee on "Zephyr Song". That's my only problem with the Trend--they pick out a few songs and hammer them endlessly, so that even though you once really liked them, you get tired of them. The Trend did that for me with "Father and Daughter" by Paul Simon, too. And "Now It's On" by Grandaddy is quickly reaching that status. But then you have other great songs that they play on New Music Monday that you never hear again. They played a song by guy called Joe Firstman on New Music Monday a few weeks ago that I liked a lot (I think he's opening for Sheryl Crow on some of her tour dates, so his music fits right in on the Trend). But, I've never heard it again, and that's been the way with a lot of the stuff they play on Mondays.

I'm not trying to Trend-bash here, as I like the general programming philosphy, but I do think the stream has the potential to be much better than it already is.

Funny just getting into the Trend today and reading these posts and guess what song is on right now? The Zephyr Song

Joe Firstman is charting now with Breaking All The Ground. I am guessing this is the song you are referring to. It should be in rotation at the Trend. i will listen for it. It is a cool song.

Default The Trend and KFOG

In case anyone is interested, The Trend sounds like it's deliberately patterned after KFOG, an FM station in San Francisco which promotes itself as "World Class Rock."

This isn't necessarily bad; The Trend does sound better than KFOG with COMMERCIALS__OFF. The San Francisco Chronicle's music critic thinks that KFOG is the lone exception in San Francisco to the rule that FM is awful, and KFOG has a substantial online listenership around the country at www.kfog.com.

Still, I'm glad that Sirius has a multiplicity of streams for adult rock listeners.
