Default Alt Nation & Ethel

I'm an xm sub. and after listening to Sirius alt nation on my girlfriends Dish, I must say that I am impressed by it. Sadly, Ethel isn't as good in that a lot of the songs they play seem to obscure and should be on xmu or you all's version of "left of Center". Do you all agree or do some of you actually like Ethel over Alt nation? Just wanted to get your opinions.

As a Sirius newbie I am slighly dissapointed in ALT NATION. It's too reminicient to our K-Roq station here. So decided to take XM's 3-day trial and currently loving XM's version. I love LUCY & ETHEL. ETHEL is ALT NATION + more variety and LUCY it's the "top hits" of the alternative genre of the 80s, 90s and today. Plus some of the DJ interruption is very minimal. So I do love the fact that they play more than the hits.

I think most of the music channels on Sirius have been getting better, but I'm still disappointed with Alt Nation. I think Lucy blows it away with the variety.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Alt Nation (and Sirius rock stations in general) seems to play the same stuff over and over similar to FM radio. Some people prefer it that way. I prefer XM's rock stations...they give you more variety...Personally I like to discover new music on Sat radio.

As another day with Ethel on XM 3 day trial, it's basically "The Vault" of post-grunge alternative rock. Or another better description from XM themselves:

"A.K." Alternative Gems

On September 24th, 1991 alternative music entered a new era. Nirvana's Nevermind was released and grunge became a nationwide phenomenon. Taking the hand-off from Fred - XM 44, Ethel is here to satisfy your craving for all the tunes that have been released A.K. (After Kurt), all completely uncensored. If you don't know the music on Ethel, you may have been unconscious for the last decade...or you may have only been hearing the 3 singles they ever play on FM. On Ethel, expect to hear deep tracks from many HUGE artists...songs that were never played on the radio, but you know 'em cuz you bought the CD. Right?

I don't for the life of me understand how anyone can like hearing the same songs over and and over and over. I wish SIRIUS would stop underestimating their audience.

IMO Ethel blows Alt Nation out of the water. ALT Nation is more of a teen pop/punk station that is SIRIUS' biggest repeat offender. Alternative is my favorite genre, and yet I think ALT Nation is awful. LOC is a great station.

Alt Nation is cool..but you still get plenty of variety on LOC...I love it. It is literally the perfect alternative station. The stuff you don't hear on FM, but not the obscure crap that sucks like they play on XM.

I haven't actually listened to Ethel (I need to get that trial), but the description makes it sound awesome. Left of Center is cool, sure, but I want the artists I know from the '90s. For example, I'm a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan and I want to hear tracks other than 1979 and Tonight Tonight.

I'm with you. While I do listen to Alt Nation at work (because i dont get an xm signal at work) its a bit too friendly. I love hearing the sometimes obscure Alt songs. Ethel is much better.
