Default hair nation

Greetings,

As a current XM subscriber, there are many XM'ers who like to see a channel similiar to this on XM. I and others like to see a Hair Band channel on XM and is seriously considering "jumping ship" if one is not added soon to the XM line up.

So the big complaint I see is a limited play list. As a huge 80's rock fan I wouldn't mind a tight rotation. After all, these are the songs I grew up with and listened to during the days of FM Radio-

I listen to XM around 3 hours a day. So is the biggest complaint about this channel the same song being played over and over or the artist being played over and over? Neither one I wouldn't mind because of my enjoyment to this format.

Thanks for your input. Just be glad you have this channel!!! Xm'ers are crying-

Default Hair Nation

You think you will like Hair Nation because you have not listened to it for very long.

Believe me, after a year of the same songs over and over again it is the most boring station around. I was so excited about this statio when I got Sirius, but now I could care less. It was almost the only reason I got Sirius, but now I'm thinking of cancelling.

There is rarely anything new. In the last year there may have been a dozen songs added.

If you want this station just record it for a couple days, cancel your subscription, and play it over and over again. There's your Hair Nation.

Boneyard on XM is better if you like hearing some different and rarer stuff. If you like hearing the same stuff you heard on FM, then Sirius is for you.

Me personally, I don't like commercial radio which is why I got satellite in the first place, but Hair Nation is very much like commercial radio.

No, I said I like XM to have a similiar format channel because its the sytle of music I like to listen too. I would not expect "anything new" to a format like this. Do you expect new songs added to a classic rock? Cant go back into time and add new songs. So I wouldn't expect a new song coming out to be played on a hair nation channel.

You know Boneyard? XM subscriber also? humm

Anyway like I will state again... I would not mind a tight format. Just asking if its the same songs or same artist. There are plenty of music during this time frame and neither complaint would effect me.

I hear what you're saying but I'll have to side with rtmensing on this.

I'll be 40 next month so I grew up with this stuff too (graduated high school in 1984). But trust me - a couple months with Hair Nation and you'll be sick to death of Def Leppard.

Now, that being said, I still listen to it. I can't stand Def Leppard now but I can't get enough Dio, so it's still my primary channel.
I have to disagree that we shouldn't expect new stuff on this channel. Motley Crue is still making music, White Snake is touring at this very moment, Dio is still putting albums out. I see nothing wrong with mixing in some of these old timer's new material. When I first got my sub last year, they were playing a couple songs from Gene Simmons' new release, and I've caught stuff from the new Motley Crue and even utter crap from the new Def Leppard cover-album. But there's not as much new material as they need.

Again, don't get me wrong - I still love hair nation but I find myself turning the channel away from it a lot more than I used to.

Check out http://www.itsonsirius.com/search/search.htm.
Search for your favorite songs and see how often they get played. Most will be played at least once a day, sometimes twice or more.
Also, to see what's currently playing, http://www.itsonsirius.com.

Using the song seek, as Seismo suggested, is the best place to start. For a quick summary, I'd say that the biggest bands of the "hair metal" era get played every hour and a half to two hours. You might hear a few songs from these bands played twice in 1 day (spread apart by at least 12 hours or so), but most of the songs only get played once per day. However, the song rotation is very tight, so eventhough an individual song might only get played once per day, the song seek will show that the same song probably gets played every day for months on end. If you don't mind a rotation that tight, then Hair Nation can work for you. Personally, I can only listen in small doses at this point because they don't dig deep enough into the major artists' catalogs for my tastes.

Does anyone in the programming dept even give a sh*t about the complaints most people have about Hair Nation? There is way too much of the same that gets played to death there. Seismo is not alone with wanting newer material from some of these bands. Is it Sirius' desire to make this an "oldies" station, or would it be too much to make the channel relevant and play new material and other tracks from those older albums?

I love the idea of having a separate 80's hair metal station. I don't listen to it exclusively. I surf Hair Nation, Octane, HardAttack, and Buzzsaw every single night before I hit the sack. And then I go to sleep listening to the last station that I selected for the night.

Having that many great stations to surf through is fantastic. If I only had two to surf through (like Boneyard and Squizz), I wouldn't have anywhere near as much fun.

PS: I've heard that Squizz will sneak a rap tune into the mix every now & then. Is that true? That would totally ruin the experience for me. If I want rap, I'll select a rap station.

And another thing...there are more songs by hair bands than just their hits.
When I was a teenager, I wore out two cassette's of Accept's Balls to the Wall. The only song they play from that album is...Balls to the Wall.
There are other great songs from it like London Leatherboys...well, I can't list 'em all because that was such a great album - they're all good.
Same goes for Ratt's Out of the Cellar - they could play deeper tracks from that album and I would be one happy camper.

Yeah. they do need to play some of those other titles. Ratt did a nice version of "Nobody Rides For Free" that was part of the soundtrack for Point Break and it was on Ratt's Ratt N' Roll 8191 album. But Sirius hasn't ever played it. It came out in 1991, so I suppose that Buzzsaw should cover it instead of the Hair Nation (80's hair metal). I think that I'll put in a request in to Buzzsaw for that song right now.

Hair Nation does play songs from the early 90's from these "80's Metal" bands.
