Default Does HardAttack Play any other ancient Metal?

When I hear Paranoid or Iron Man on Hard Attack, which is Black Sabbath music from the '70s (for those that weren't born by '72 or were still rugrats), have you heard HA play any other music from that early era?

Then again, what other groups from back then would have been considered Metal?

Blue Oyster Cult (early stuff)?

Early Foghat & Def Leppard?

What about UFO and Rainbow?

If HA is playing early Sabbath, why not play Lesile West and Mountain? He was pretty heavy back then.

Any other thoughts?

Rainbow may be played on Hard Attack nothing else from your list.
Your best bet is Buzzsaw #19 or Hair Nation #23

I don't mean to biatch but then it seems they are setting a double standard. I have heard Kal mention twice in the mornings about requests for Quiet Riot and he has said that you have to go to Hair Nation for that.

Now you could say, that HA is paying homage to the founders of Heavy Metal but if that is the case then why aren't we hearing Steppin Wolf and Uriah Heap, too?

Quote:
The history of heavy metal music began around 1964-1970 with bands like the Kinks, the Who, Alice Cooper's The Spiders, Cream, Golden Earring, Led Zeppelin, Vanilla Fudge, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Iron Butterfly, Steppenwolf, Blue Cheer, Atomic Rooster, Cactus, Grand Funk Railroad, Deep Purple, Free, Uriah Heep, Mountain, Bloodrock, Black Widow, and Black Sabbath, Iron Butterfly Heavy album and Steppenwolf's song Born to Be Wild which contained the phrase "heavy metal thunder" share credit for the name heavy metal. The genre borrowed heavily from rock and the blues but moved towards a more aggressive direction than other bands from the 60's incorporating energetic live shows and darker melodies and themes.

Even Ian Christy points to Led Zep and Deep Purple, and makes reference to Judas Priest's second album in 1976 although I would dispute that. I would say Rocka Rola had to some heavy overtones and that was 1974!

So why don't we hear some of these bands in the original sin category?

IMO, there are plenty of stations to hear those older bands- I have heard some Iron Maiden on Hard Attack.

My question is, why don't these other bands get a shot in the "original sin" category?

Okay, it's bad enough when some clerk calls me ma'am. Can you please watch who you're calling ancient?

Anyway, Buzzsaw would seem to be the most likely candidate, aside from Hair Nation which sprinkles in some of these artists from time to time.

I myself wouldn't really call BOC, Foghat, Def Leppard, Rainbow, and UFO Heavy enough for Hard Attack. Hard Attack is mainly for the heavier part of metal.

Even today some of Black Sabbaths stuff is still thick and heavy compared some of todays so called metal bands. And some of the old Sabbath is over 30 years old now!

chiming in to agree with others here... heavy doesn't necessarily mean heavy metal. And being influential doesn't mean the artist belongs in a category that they influenced.

I'm beginning to think BMW doesn't like Sabbath. I could be wrong but I think I have seen you posting before that you don't think they should be on HA.

The bottom line is They were the first, and they are best and any metal station that doesn't play Sabbath shouldn't be allow to consider themselves metal. Just because they aren't speed metal doesn't mean they aren't dark and heavy. What's wrong you don't like songs that you actually hear what the singer is saying ?

It might do you some good to break out the Sabbath discs and listen to all of there stuff and realise just how different and ground breaking they were. There just isn't another band like them, no matter how many bands copy them.

Ancient metal my ass.

They are the most important metal band ever.

Quit hating on Sabbath or I'll unleash satan on your ass

We are getting alot of Sabbath due to Ozzfest too. They tend to increase airplay during national tours.

It's not that I don't like Sabbath, I do, its just they are getting over played. I am normally not one to biatch about repetition on HA because there is quite a bit, but when you classic Sabbath in the morning and evening, it kind of bothersome, to me atleast.

Most times when the Original Sin sound byte comes on, its something from Volume 4, Paranoid, or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. It's just getting old. While I have pointed out that others believe Led Zep, Cream, etc... (including Sabbath) are the forefathers of Metal, I think its Sabbath who brought on the dark, macabre, foreboading music that launched metal.

On the otherhand, they are also touted as the creaters of stoner rock, another genre that I love and wouldn't know about if it weren't for HA and Sirius! I think they are getting overplayed. How about Original Sin playing some (I was going to say Manowar but I head them the other day) Raven, Saxon, and some early Judas Priest. I would really like to hear a live version of the Green Manaleeshi(sp) - anyone got one on MP3?

There is no such thing as too much Sabbath and you could play them 24 hopurs a day and it wouldn't be overplayed.

I have a mp3 of Green Manalishi from Live Aid I think.

And I agree it would be great if they added more of the older heavy stuff early Priest, early Maiden, Early Anthrax (have they ever played death from above or metal thrashing mad ?) how about merciful fate ?
