Priest is awesome, and I'm glad that Hair Nation has them in the playlist. I just wish they'd mix up the Priest tunes a little bit more. I just checked the song search, and Priest had been played 53 times on Hair Nation since Oct 1, which works out to 2-3 times per day. Out of those 53 plays, 27 were "Living After Midnight" or "You've Got Another Thing Coming." So half the time you hear Priest, it's one of those two songs. They're great songs that deserve airtime, no doubt! But I think that's where Hair Nation still has room for improvement. They pick great songs from the biggest artists of the era, but they ignore many of the great songs that these artists have to offer. Would many people complain if some of the "Living After Midnight" and "You've Got Another Thing Coming " spins were replaced by some extra spins of "Electirc Eye," "Screaming for Vengeance," "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll," "Hell Bent For Leather," etc? These songs get the occasional spin, but I don't get the overly heavy bias towards only two songs. This spreads to other Hair Nation artists with deep catalogs as well. They play great songs... I just wish they'd play a little more variety of them.

Ok... here's a Hair Nation challenge for you Try to get Hair Nation to play "Beyond the Realms of Death," "Delivering the Goods," "Turning Circles," "Diamonds and Rust," "Exciter," "White Heat, Red Hot," "United," "You Don't Have to be Old to be Wise," "Riding on the Wind," "(Take these) Chains," "Pain and Pleasure," "Screaming for Vengeance," or "Rock Hard Ride Free." Some of these songs are marginally-deep for Priest, but most are standard Priest classics. Hair Nation hasn't played any of these songs in October. I've requested many of them in the past without any luck.

Defenders of the Faith, your mission has been laid out before you!

Great songs!! But I dont remember hearing most of these songs on the top 40 FM channels back in the 80's. Main stream rock is the format of Hair Nation, so you might want to request those songs on another classic rock channel that Sirius offers.

Now back to rocken with Hair Nation.

Enjoy

Hey, if they can go deep enough to play Lilian Axe's "Show a Little Love," they can go deep enough to play one of those Priest songs. They do focus mostly on the mainstream songs of the era, but they do go off that track every once in a while.

Some of those Priest songs do show up on other rock stations, but since there is a decent amount of cross-over on some rock stations (like Hair Nation, Buzzsaw, and Hard Attack), I think Hair Naiton could play them as well.

The challenge still stands

Well sorry but wont accept your challenge. Any request from me will be for Def Leppard, AC/DC, Aerosmith and the likes.

I would like to see a song played once or twice a day. Really wouldn't consider a song in a normal rotation if its just a 1 month thing. Not a big Priest listener and am sorry if you cant find the channel that plays huge amount of their songs. I understand what your going through. I had same issues over at XM. Thats why I am now a Sirius subscriber.

Again I see Hair Nation as more of the "Pop" Rock and Roll of the 80's and so seeing a huge cut list from the Priest will be a challenge.

Enjoy

I understand your point, and no station is going to be perfect for all listeners. I enjoy the songs that Hair Nation plays, but I think they could do an even better job by opening up the playlist a little more to more songs by their major artists. Let's take your Def Leppard example. Here's a list of great Def Leppard songs that haven't been played in October on Hair Nation:

Rock Brigade, Let It Go, Another Hit and Run, You Got Me Runnin, Rock Rock Til You Drop, Billy's Got a Gun, Gods of War, Don't Shoot Shotgun, Make Love Like a Man, Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion), Two Steps Behind

Other great songs only got one or two plays in the 20 days of October, like Mirror Mirror, Lady Strange, Hello America, Comin' Under Fire, and Tear It Down

Again, most of these are very well known to Def Leppard fans and fans of this genre, but these great songs never see the light of day. Instead, they choose to play a few select songs very frequently, like Armageddon It, Rocket, Pour Some Sugar on Me, Hysteria, and Love Bites. These are all great songs that deserve to be played on a regular basis, but are they so good that they can dominate the Def Leppard playlist at the expense of all of these other great songs? I think cutting back a few spins of the heavily played songs while adding a few spins of the lesser played songs can create a very nice balance. But if I email in a request for Gods of War, which I've done before, it will fall on deaf ears.

Well keep sending in those emails to them requesting your songs. Hope they play a song or two of your requested tunes.

Until then I hope to continue keeping this discussion on topic of Hair nation sounds great!!!!!

Rock on dude....

"Rock Brigade" and "Let It Go" have been played at least four times each during October on BuzzSaw.

Sirius is damned if they do and damned if they don't.

If they would've played those two songs on Hair Nation in addition to the four times each on Buzzsaw, one group of whiners would gripe that "They're being too repetitious by shuffling the songs around between channels." The other group of course wails "Why aren't they playing those songs on Hair Nation?"

If they played all the Def Leppard songs you listed on Hair Nation this month, one group would whine that HN is playing too much DL. Of course, they didn't play all of them, so the other group snivels that they aren't playing enough DL.

Bottom line--Sirius can't please all the people all the time.

Actually I think Sirius is doing the right thing by spreading out the DL tunes between two or more channels.

And if they would've played them more, there are those who would gripe about too much repetition. They didn't play them more, so there are those who gripe that they didn't play them enough.

Sirius can't win. There's a certain percentage of people who are going to bitch no matter what they do.

Fair enough... I fully understand that you can't please all of the people all of the time. However, I think you might have slightly misunderstood my point. I wasn't calling for additional Def Leppard songs per day. I think the current rotation of having a Def Leppard song play every 1.5-2 hours is fine. It's a good balance, since it gives people tuning in at any time of day a decent chance of hearing a Def Leppard tune, which is appropriate since they were a huge band of the era. What I've been hoping for over the last 2 years (since the switch from "Big Rock" to "Hair Nation") is a switch back to the programming philosophy of "Big Rock." They'd play all of these major bands on a similar schedule as Hair Nation, but they'd vary the playlist of these bands a bit more by mixing in some of these other familiar songs. These "familiar, yet not quite hit" songs seem to have been left behind in the new programming philosophy, which seems to focus on a heavy rotation of the "biggest songs of the bigest bands."

I also understand that some of these songs get played on other stations, and I should probably set my song seek for them What I don't understand is what makes one Def Leppard song a "Hair Nation" song and another Def Leppard song a "Buzzsaw" song. There seems to be a decent amount of overlap, which is fine since they're appropriate to both stations. I can understand the ballads only being played on Hair Nation, but I'm not as clear on why the rocking songs would only be played on one or the other as they really fit both stations.

Anyway, back to the original point of this topic, Hair Nation does indeed sound great. They play the biggest and best songs of the era, and everything they play fits the genre. I'll just continue to let the Hair Nation DJ's know how I feel about potential points of improvement, but I won't hijack this thread with those ideas

Hard Attack plays Priest. But not as much as other gods of metal like Pantera. Pantera should be on EVERY hour and I pretty much think it is.

I have XM and Sirius and enjoy both the Boneyard and Hair Nation. When I get tired of the deep stuff, I turn to Hair Nation to hear all the hits. When I get tired of the hits, I go back to the Boneyard. My perfect 80's station would be somewhere in between the two... Hair Nation's artist selection, but the Boneyard's deeper song selection for these artists.

Anyway, both of them rock in their own way, and it's great to have satellite radio services that give us access to stations focusing on 80's rock artists!
