Default Coffee House is Standard Time for Gen X'ers!

I was painting my basement over the weekend and when a family member came over to help, of course I had to switch from blarring Hardattack to something that everyone could enjoy so I went to Coffee House.

Heard alot of overlapp from Standards but then there was KD Lang, Sheryl Crow, etc..., and I have to say this is a really good mix.

But when you look at the play list and its infusion of soft rock and cool jazz from the 80's, 90's, and the new millenia, its a shining example of the GenX version of Standard Time.

So many want to go to XM now since they have a folk channel. Just remember that XM drops channels too. Just ask all the frustrated Liquid Metal and Special X fans. I love Sirius because they actually play heavy metal, but I have both services because sometimes having both seems to be the only answer.

Basement??? What's that??? Is that something to do with baseboards??? Southern Californians don't have any!!!

Speaking of good mix - Hard Attack is having a Metal Gods Week and is digging deeper and playing old school tracks like Dio! Hope you got Hard Attack back!

Since the equipment is quite inexpensive, keeping the equipment when switching back and forth makes sense. That the services like to drop popular channels is a good argument for paying month-to-month, and not paying in advance. Certainly I'm glad now that I never put Sirius on a longer-term commitment.

I don't see a reason to pay both services, though.

And yes, the XM folk channel (The Village) is quite good, much better than it was when I switched from XM to Sirius 18 months ago. I expect I'll cancel out my Sirius subscriptions shortly.

Default the blanding of sirius

The thing I loved about Folktown was that you could always tell what station you were on by listening to a couple of songs. With Coffee House I don't know if I'm on Spectrum or the Pulse or a couple of other channels.

Why do they have to get rid of something unique for more of the same?

Coffee House is a fine channel and would have made a nice ADDITION to the existing channels, but to trade it in for Folktown is like going for a reheated, watered down, cup of decafe made at the dirty office coffee machine instead of an authentic cappuccino made by an old guy in a tiny cafe in a small village in Italy who's been making coffee for the last 50 years.

Default sorry excuse for folktown

whose idea was this station? i subscribed to sirius for folktown and now i get this and it's billed as an improvement? i am defecting to xm as soon as my subscription expires. and if xm does the same, i'll just do the ipod thing. if this is what can be expected, i am totally dissappointed in sattelite radio. mel, are you listening? i've written at least four emails to sirius and NEVER gotten one response.

you guys will deserve what the market hands you.

We also call them cellars but that term is really reserved for older homes, like the last house I owned. Actually, I just had this Owens Corning wall covering system installed and now I have my own mini sound studio!!!

I remember having a basement when I lived in Oakland but we lived on the side of a hill and it was like another floor to the house.

I can't wait till the rugrats are in bed, gonna crack open a few brews and do some more work down there listening to hard attack!

I haven't really listened enough to get a good feel for the channel, but so far I've pretty much enjoyed the selection.

It really is good coffee drinking music. I'm listening as I type and drinking a steaming hot cup of Folgers.

Default MADE THE JUMP

Well I got the XM MyFi handheld Saturday and signed up for half a year with XM. We'll see how it goes with the Folk thing, so far The Village and The Loft are working fine, still not a hip as the old Folktown, but it works for me.

The Coffee House mix is varied to say the least, would be fine as any stream goes, but NO replacement for Folk Town....WHAT WERE THEY THINKING ?

I heard Ronnie this morning and I was like WTF? I haven't heard DIO since high school.

I was expecting something like an unplugged acoustic channel with cutting edge artists and classics in Coffee House. Not so, but I wouldn't say it's not like a coffee house. The one I love around here is Called the Acoustic Coffee Lounge, where they let anyone get a mic and we applaud them all. Even rappers. So maybe it is like a coffee house these days and I can say that the dude who pointed out its' like going into a Starbucks is correct. It's just like hearing XM in Starbucks. Perhaps the bean counters considered this a good thing. WHo knows... maybe the were wrong. I still thinks it's a lot like Disorder, I don't see the difference. I like Disorder and was expecting something different.

so far this stream is exactly what I have been looking for. It is a very nice balance of familiar songs, songs I have never heard, and songs that I have heard but in an acoustic version. I give this stream a big two thumbs up!

Actually, it was supposed to be Sat 10-1, and Sun 11-2.
I just heard from someone who saw on the Disorder page on sirius.com that the Darma Cafe is supposed to be 7-10 Sat, and 11-2 Sun. This is different from what they’ve been advertising for several weeks. And real early on the left coast!
I received an e-mail from The Kennedys in which they said that 7-10 on Saturdays is for this month only, then it goes to the previously advertised 10-1 next month.

PUKE IS RIGHT.... Just bring back Folk Town now, they know they have to.
Competition will enforce it.
