Default Bring Back Folktown

I thought the advantage of Satellite radio was to get an alternative to the same mainstream rock that you can get for free in any Radio market.
Why pay extra for the same stuff featured on many of the Rock channels here? ALL VARIATIONS OF THE SAME. In reality Sirius could use about 3 channels that are now gone with the demise of folktown: Folk/Progressive Alt Country/Triple A... each could have a channel in my book. Instead we get "coffeehouse", programing such acoustic songwriters as Coldplay/David Grey/Nora Jones/REM etc. What corporate clown makes these decisions? I purchased Sirius mainly for Folktown and I feel it is a breach of contract to remove this (Since I paid for a year).

Last Weekend in Golden Gate Park was a free concert that drew 600,000 persons per day.In 5 stages were 1 bluegrass stage and the balance was Alt country (Buddy Miller), Non mainstream country (Emmylou Harris),Folk (Joan Baez), Triple A (Todd Snider) as well as Rodney Crowell,Kelly Joe Phelps,Guy Clark,Steve Earle, etc.... all people and genres now without a home. I guess this demographic is un-important to Sirius. But Hey! now they have Martha Stewart! Im off to XM as soon as I get my refund.

I've been enjoying this channel today even more so than the past few days. Anyone else liking it more now than when it first started? I like how they play a good bit of live tracks.

Well said ! You hit the nail right on the head. Sirius has nothing for the folk crowd, NOTHING ! XM has 2 alt country channels, Sirius nothing really, The Border was alt country a year ago, but they diluted it when they introduced Outlaw. I live in the North East and the folk venues are packed at every show. Folk Alley on he web is even a buzz over the loss of Sirius's Folk Town http://tinyurl.com/afe34

Apparently Sirius's focus groups are all rock/talk oriented. The're about to suffer a loss of subscribers and have no clue as to why.

I purchased the MyFi XM player this weekend and am quite impressed by the line up, but I must confess, the XM folk (The Village) is a bit too whiney for my. That's why I went with Sirius a couple of years ago, but XM's The Loft is certainly much better than The Coffee House.

Looks like Mel is gonna ruin Sirius too....such a shame.

Everyday, Everyday, we have to read your anti-Sirius post. If you are cancelling then do so man. Enough already! You've made your point, you said what you have to say, but now you are simply beating a dead horse.

Cha ! roll over and die. Sorry, you're talking to the wrong guy.
The big wigs at Sirius can't just lie to their customers and expect them to crawl under the bed and go away. Maybe you would. NA AH, NOT ME !!
You're the one beating a dead horse. I have a valid issue.

You need to read up more on the forum history. This forum is owned by an individual not Sirius. None of us on this forum in moderator or admin postions work for Sirius. So, if I am a big wig with Sirius I sure and heck wish they would send me my paycheck with all the months of back pay they owe me.

No one said your issue was not valid, but you've made your point over and over and over. If you are going to cancel then do so, but this posting the same stuff everyday has quickly gotten old. Life is too short and precious to get this worked up. You aren't the only person that lost a channel they liked, I loved Slow Jams and I know several others on the forum that loved that channel too. We said how we felt about it and let it go, making whatever decision we had to rather it was to stay or go. End of the Story....

We are well aware that Sirius Reviews this site, but that doesn't change anything in regards to what I said about your daily post. It is the contructive threads with good discussion that they take the most notice in, not an individual making the same complaint over and over in every thread as you have done.

This thread is about The Coffee House, it is not about the fact that folks are upset that Sirius removed a channel even if this was said to replace it, so lets get it back on topic. There are other threads to discuss the removal of certain channels.

Default gimme a break moderator

come on moderator, channel surfer is upset and so are many other posters about the recent changees. i personally selected sirius for the folktown channel. i signed a 6 month agreement and then 1 week after i activate my account, they eliminate the channel i signed up for and replace it with exactly what i was trying to get away from on commercial radio. if we shouldn't be posting our dissatisfaction here, then where? when sirius responds to email they do so with canned bs. here's the response i got from them about the loss of folktown:

Dear John,

In our effort to deliver un-compromised coast-to-coast music and
entertainment for your car and home, we have to enhance our music and
entertainment line-up from time to time. This round of changes is a
direct result of feedback from listeners like you. And it’s just the
latest way we’re making sure that SIRIUS remains the premier satellite
radio service.

If you enjoyed listening to Folk-Town, you will enjoy The Coffee House
// Ch. 30. Coffee House will feature singer-songwriters from Dylan to
Indigo Girls plus acoustic rock.

Message: i subscribed to sirius for folktown. for some unknown reason
you changed the format to acoustic coffeehouse which really has very
little acoustic singer-songwriter music. WHY?? from the posts on
siriusbackstage it seems to be a very unpopular move. if the
programming on the new channel isn't corrected soon, i will be
discontinuing my subscription as soon as it expires and moving my wife
and myself to the other guys. boy, you guys have sorely disappointed
me.

I have no problem with people venting, but its just not necessary to do it over and over and over in every thread that is all I am saying. There is a thread for this called NO MORE FOLKTOWN in the Country Forum.

I agree with you that your reply from Sirius was nothing more than a canned one. The thing that we are all aware of us that The Coffee House is simply NOT a replacement for Folktown. This is the same mistake Sirius made when they removed Soundscapes and said Chill would be the replacement for it. I think if they had just removed Folktown (while I wish they wouldn't have) without saying The Coffee House was its replacement most folks wouldn't be this upset with The Coffee House Channel, because on its own its a pretty decent channel from what I am hearing. I just hope they will maybe do a 24 hour program of Folktown like they did for Soundscapes after it was removed. That would be better than no Folktown, which is what we said about Soundscapes on Sundays. The complaints are valid, but this isn't the forum for them.

Perhaps we can learn from history?

Fans of Soundscapes wrote hundreds of letters to Sirius for a year and were rewarded with Spa 73. The fact is no one here can do anything to bring back Folktown. If you are serious about your feelings make your feelings known to the company, write them.

Jay Clark
Executive Vice President, Programming
1221 Avenue of the Americas
New York, NY 10020

Fans of Totally 70's did the same thing last year, and Totally 70's expanded their play list. I wrote 5 letters to Sirius over as many months, spend the 37 cents, someone will eventually get the picture. We had out thread about the subject, and Sirius does read the board. Your position is helped by having a single thread where Sirius can see the number of people that are passionate about Folktown.

Your passion is great, put it to use where it can do the most good.

I'm enjoying this station, but think it's too broad. I could do without the Billie Holliday and Glenn Miller. As others have mentioned I would prefer it to be much heavier on the singer-songwriter acoustic side, especially since that's what the description says it is.

Default miss folktown

I'm enjoying coffehouse but I have to say I miss folktown. And, my father, who often rides in my car is really missing swingtown. Standards just doesn't do it for him.
