I miss Hear Music and The Loft on XM so I listen to the Coffeehouse several times throughout the day but I never stay on the channel for more then 30 mins at a time. I enjoy what I hear for the most part but I do agree they do play ALOT of the same artists like David Gray etc.

They are definitely tweaking it. Do an advanced search for an entire day, sa a week or 2 ago, and then one from yesterday or today, and compare the number of different artists and the number of plays of David Gray, Indigo Girls, etc. They are still played a lot, but they have gone from 10-12 plays a day each to 6-8. A step in the right direction. And a lot more acoustic-type older rock. It is getting better and more diverse. I just hope it continues.

I've totally given up on the Coffeehouse. It's playlist is extremely limited and it certainly NOT singersongwriter stuff.

Sirius should be embarrased by it's lack of creativity.

I was really lookin foward to this channel when the first announced it. They made it sound like it was going to actually be an all acoustic music channel. It was definatley not what they pushed it to be! It really is horrible and should be taken out of the rock genre!

gleff, raven52,...I share your frustration. But surely there is a method/philosophy behind the programming decisions. I just can't understand it! The topic of repetition comes up regularly on this forum. Maybe it is part of the marketing plan. By the way, how much music does Sirius have access to, and do they have to pay for any of it (or do others pay them, that is, can artists/labels buy a certain amount of time)? From my (maybe "our") viewpoint, if I could program a channel, I would explore the diversity and sheer amount of "good stuff" that is available (within the boundaries of the channel-but this brings up another issue)...that just seems the obvious for making listener's happy. But maybe sirius' freedom is being limited by factors we don't understand, or maybe it is all part of a marketing plan to attract new subscriptions.

It's called Payola. It ruined AM and then FM, and now Mel has incorporated it into satellite. So sad.
Read all about it here ----> http://www.history-of-rock.com/payola.htm

Thanks gleff. Ah yes...the politics of it all, and the powers that be. Consider...if a channel was really "good" (diverse in artists/songs), why would anyone go anywhere else (buy CD's for instance)? Seems like each "player" in the game (Sirius included) has to fit in with the whole picture and with the "big players." So maybe Sirius asks the question...How good can we be without affecting our relationships, or annoying our listeners too much? This translates into...how far can we push being just another "average" venue for music? :\

OK...still thinking and rambling...My opinion the Kennedy's do a great show on Disorder (very diverse). But Sirius chooses not to do this on Coffeehouse. Oh well...still hoping the old Folktown returns. BTW, Sirius has me hooked...enough "good stuff" (my opinion of course) shows up to keep me subscribing. However, I've come very close to subscribing to both services. HEY...maybe that's it...the two are working together to get all our money!!

Yes, I did get XM after 9-29-05. It's definatly worth having both services.
But, one day I must decide who will stay and who will go. Looks like I'll wait for the next Sirius channel update and see who wins. XM certainly has the diverisity I'm looking for but I have 3 Sirius radios !

Default Geez, is this boat getting crowded or what?

Yeah, got both services. Same here, after 9-29-05 I went over to the darkside of XM. Excellent music mixes and more choice for my tastes; I'll also wait until Sirius does their next channel reshuffle cause of my LifeTime Sub and gear, but this XM Portable is going to hard to give up, very cool. Wherever I go, there they are... Buckaroo Bonzai ...s2s
