I tired very hard to like this channel. Tried. It's not what I expected although there seems to be a good rotation of differing artits. But how is this different from Disorder? Where are all the acoustics?

I'm probably in the minority here, but I already listen to CoffeeHouse much more than I ever listened to folktown, so for me the change has been a plus.

I can certainly understand the FolkTown-fans' frustration though, and see nothing wrong with them venting... that's what the forums are for. Whenever a channel gets deleted with nothing comparable to replace it, some folks are going to be irked.

Good point. It's like Disorder without DJ's.

I like what I heard so far- I have it added as part of the presets.
I don't think it's like Chill- Chill has more of an electronic tone to it- Which is also part of my presets

Default RENAME

It needs to be renamed. Coffee House is too misleading.

Ice Coffee House would be better, does not have the warmth of true acoustic music.

I have been listening for two days and I think this is the best channel on Sirius. I really like it, one of the reasons that I liked XM was Hear Music, The Loft and Fine Tuning, this is right there for me.

Thanks Sirius for

Default Concerning the loss of Folktown+the gain [?] of CoffeeHouse

I bought into the concept of Sirius based on an interview that Meg Griffin had with Vin Scelsa [24 Sun Nights @ 8PM] on WFUV- his NY radio show. She described the work she was doing with Organic Rock [now DisOrder] and with Folktown. She also described the work that Sirius was doing to try to save the Bottom Line Club here in NYC. On the strength of all of that I purchased a home/car unit and listened as both formats developed and grew into wonderful stations. The DJs were getting better and better and it was rare that I heard music that I didn't enjoy on some level. I felt as though I was returned to Radio. I could hear music not heard in commercial radio and I finally had a viable alternative to the garbage that is broadcast over the airwaves. Folktown was loose in it's definition of folk but was mostly true to the acoustic concept. I've since purchased a second unit because I wanted both car and home availabilty.

Now all of a sudden, I feel like I've returned to the world of Commercial broadcasting and find that on the strength of focus groups [I can't imagine how else they would make the decision, the receivers don't have feedback that I know of- and how many folk music afficionados do we suppose were in on these focus groups??], Sirius seems to be backing away from the original concept of alternative radio. Sudden, radical format changes are the stuff of broadcasting ala WCBS FM in NYC going from 30 + years of Oldies to "Jack" radio [don't ask me!] with no warning to its long-time listeners.

I've been listening to CoffeeHouse for about an hour and I hear no correlation to Folktown and no on-air people. It almost strikes me as a variation on "lite-fm" and like that format has little or no unique personality. I am very disappointed in this loss and truly hope that the Sirius higher-ups are reading these comments.

I'm also a subscriber to XM [previously, mostly for baseball] and it is nice that with the Village I will still have one folk outlet, but it is nowhere near as good as Folktown was.

Thank you,
Marc

And an aside to Rizzy: "get off folktown it is gone, it's in the past, not coming back, so stop the complaining"
On what basis do you KNOW this? If I like something a lot, it is incumbent upon me to try to save it and I believe that everyone who is stating a desire to do the same is not "complaining". Maybe we can *get* it back, so don't be so dismissive of people expressing their wishes. It is, after all, what Sirius has asked us to do!

I'm not fond of the music mix on Coffeehouse, and it is certainly not a replacement for Folktown.

Having said that, it is not a lost cause to get Folktown back. The trance music fanatics fought for 2 years to get Vortex back, and it was reborn as "Area 63" (now Area 33). The New-Age lovers howled for an equal amount of time about the loss of Soundscapes, and now "The Spa" is back.

The way to get it back is to right lots of letters to Sirius letting them know that you miss Folktown and that XM does have this type of music available, and most importantly, that you would consider moving to XM unless Folktown is returned to the lineup.

The key is to be polite, respectfull, but firm in what you are asking for. When Sirius receives enough grief, then they will return the station to the lineup. Otherwise, it is gone for good.

Your comments are right inline with the poll, which indicates this channel is finding a good bit of acceptance. 69 votes that have either made it a preset, say they will listen again or find it okay. 17 say it isn't for them or they hope its removed.

When you look through the thread a lot of those that like it or say they will listen again aren't leaving comments. Those that don't like it are more vocal, but the poll doesn't lie.

I agree 100%. And any marketer worth his salt knows that focus groups don't, don't, DON'T work.

Sirius is becoming as homogenous as Vitamin D milk and about as colorful.

Yeah The Coffee House is nothing what I was expecting because from its description it sounds like you're going to get acoustic/singers-songwriters - ONLY. But it's more like an eclectic mix of adult alternative, folk, vocal jazz, and other acoustic rock. From what I'm hearing The Coffee House is a mixture of XM's XM Cafe (adult alternative), Hear Music , and The Loft (singers-songwriters).

Saying that - so far it sounds great!
