Default Why did you dump your favorite FM Rock Station for Sirius?

So tell us what your long lost FM Rocker was and why you dumped it for Sirius Satellite Rock Music?

I never really listened to FM. Mainly because where I live there are no metal stations. I'd say for the past 6 or 7 years I mainly listened to CD's in my car and at home.
I picked Sirius mainly because everyone I heard talking about Satellite Radio told me that Sirius had the better programing in general. About a month after I bought Sirius Howard made is announcement. So far in the little over a year since I bought Sirius XM axed their metal station, and they didn't get Howard so I guess I did the right thing!

my favorite FM station used to be 93.3 WMMR, back in the day it played lots of great rock stuff(stuff you'd hear on Buzzsaw or Hair Nation), its old slogan used to be "Philadelphia's Home of Rock & Roll!".... buut, about 2 or 3 years ago, they decided "HEY! Let's not play that anymore, let's just play crappy mall rock like Trapt, Hoobastank, and Breaking Benjamin non-stop, and have all these stupid annoying talk shows that nobody will care to listen to!"

I still have an old shirt of it just for the memories of the good times I had with it- it's a takeoff of a Jack Daniel's shirt, that says "WMMR Rocks, 93.3, Philadelphia Radio"

also used to like 94.1 WYSP, because they used to play lots of good metal stuff late at night (Pantera, Slayer, Sepultura, Fear Factory, etc), buut not anymore.. they still have one show on there I kind of like, called "Loud & Local", plays a lot of good rock & metal bands from around here, but otherwise, the station is just your typical crappy FM rock station- nothing but crappy nu-metal, emo, and mall rock.. not to mention there are WAY too many stupid talk shows! They also broadcast Eagles games when they're on, so if I'm not near a TV I turn it on to hear em, this is the only time I ever listen to this station anymore.. and ehh, maybe I'll listen to Loud & Local now & then if I feel like it...

and there was one other station similar to WMMR, 95.1 WZZO, a station in northeast PA (Bethlehem/Northampton/Allentown area), and since im in southeast PA i didnt always get that one in clear, but not that I care anymore, just like WMMR & WYSP, it's turned to total shit thanks to those fucking CLEAR CHANNEL bastards!

and i ocassionally listened to the classic rock stations, 102.9 WMGK and 97.5 The Hawk(actually that station is based in Trenton NJ so it doesn't always come in clear)

buut those days are over & done now, the only time I'll ever listen to FM radio is, like I mentioned, when the Eagles are on WYSP & I cant watch em, or Loud & Local if I feel like it, and the only time I ever turn on AM radio is when I can't watch the Flyers, I listen to em on 610 AM, Philly's sports radio

Too many commercials, and a lame morning show featuring irrelevant babble for three hours.

For me Knac 105.5 was dumped for a spanish format station. Was it greed or did the owner really need money? Hair nation has taken away the pain!

WIYY 98 Rock
I'd been listening to the station pretty steadily since 1996. Along with a random smattering of new rock, they've been playing the SAME classic rock songs since then.

ACDC - Dirty Deeds
Led Zeppelin - Heartbreaker/Livin' Lovin' Maid
Queen - We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions
Van Halen - Running' With The Devil

are the ones that come to mind, that I've probably heard every day! They do have a great morning show, but there's nothing but commercials!!

The rock station in my hometown, 99.9 "The Carp" has to be one of the worst in the entire country. They play very little new music. There are 2 classic rock stations in my hometown, but yet the "new" rock station feels the need to play classic rock half the time. They also have the usual problems FM stations have...to many commercials, horrible DJ's etc.

There was a Low Power FM rock station, 107.9 aka WOLF 108, that was on the air for just over a year (until Sept '04) that really showed me just how cool radio can be, which helped me get an intrest in subscribing to satellite radio to begin with.

Same here bud for KNAC and then flipped on KNAC.com and the web cam. Was very cool for years following "the Rack" and her mouth! KLOS out of LA used to be right up there with metal back in the day with KNAC.

I still wear my KNAC unfuckinstoppable shirt once in a while. Remember that one?

There's two rock stations in the entire Denver Metro Area that are still listenable, but they are both pretty much the same format. I need more than that. Nowadays until I do get SIRIUS(and XM), I'll stick to my iPod and Internet radio. When I'm in the car (which is for very short periods lately) it's usually talk radio.

And if you can pick up the signal from 96.7 kcal out of San bernardino, they seem to play alot of Green day and stuff like that and yet call themselves a rock station!

Dumping my favorite FM Rocker was a pretty big deal for me. After all when your rock station wins Arbitrons Rock Station of the year for the whole country time after time, its hard to give up.

I guess moving to another location where the radio stations pretty much sucked made my decision easier.

Radio in general is getting worse in programing, listens way to much to consultants, and is so damn concerned with over processing their audio signal that finally I pulled the plug.

Got tired of all the gimick's and dumb giveaways during Arbitrons rating period, got tired of listening to my favorite song played 2X's faster so more commercials could be played on the air, got tired of the cheap morning talk shows, well just got tired of all the talk PERIOD. Commercials I understood and accepted but the talk, laugh and more laughs had to go.

I wanted music for my morning drive but got 7 commercials, talk and laughs, and 1 song that got talked over at the beginning and cut off at the end so I could hear more talk and chatter. This was all at 7am and I had enough.

Dont like automation. So funny traveling and hearing the same DJ's on different towns. All satellite feed music streams going to automated FM stations. Whats so different from that and Sirius Satellite radio!!!

I get all my local community info from my TV set.

So there you go. Got Satellite rado where Rock music is played in the mornings and all day long. I love it.

Enjoy
