Glad to see this channel finally has more than a couple listeners on this board. Jam on has been my #1 channel from day one. Love the phish love the dead but what I really love is how it has turned me on to so many other bands e.g. particle, the rads, o.a.r., and especially Jerry Joseph and the jack mormons! Those guys just rock. Phish isn't for everybody I guess but just like the dead, if you ever got to a show you would be hooked. I second the notion for a dead hour. Bill Walton is cool and everything but man does that guy love to hear himself talk. more tunes less blah blah blah.

I know what you mean. Nice to know that their is other music that jams I've never heard before. I now am becoming much more familiar with The String Cheese Incident, Animal Liberation Orchestra, and The Disco Biscuits, among others.

If you haven't done so already, do yourself a favor and pick up Bisco's cd's. You'll love them. Just saw them in NYC on 12/30 & 12/31, two awesome shows. They are one of the best jam bands around today.

Reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw and cannot forget:

Jerry's dead. Phish sucks. Take a shower. Get a job.

If you can't laugh at yourself.....

Anyway. I have to say that Jam On was not a reason for me to buy Sirius because, frankly, I assumed XM had something similar. I am glad to see now I made a good decision. I would have been very dissapointed (like I am now at Sirius with Fox News)....it may be the only thing really keeping me happy right now. Nothing is better when you have a long drive.

I love hearing all the bands. Especially Gov't Mule, O.A.R., and of course the classics like Little Feat. I can always handle the Dead, but not Phish. It's almost like I need to be warned about thier coming so I can prepare myself for it. If they are on when I first tune in, I go to Court TV or some talk station. Wierd how that affects me so. I don't want to say "annoying" but......

I would like to hear more funky and jazzy type bands. Like Delta Nove, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, etc. Also, throw in some Galactica. I used to see them fairly often when I lived in New Orleans.

I have not had Sirius for long yet, but as of now, Jam On is the only music station I have programed into a pre-set.

Ouch - some *<PHiSH>< bashing... It's all good.

Jam On is about the only station I listen to, but get so discouraged sometimes with the rotation. Do most of the other music stations also have a pretty regular rotation?

Sorry, didn't mean to sound harsh. I used to be a big Phish fan.

I just grew tired of them is all. Last show I saw was Boston Gardens New Year's Eve 1994 (not counting New Orleans Jazz Fests). Anyone remember the cops in full riot gear loading us into the subway like cattle right after?

Though I did see them at Great Woods a couple of times before then, and they did indeed rock each time...

Elahrairah -

You weren't harsh at all. I enjoy opinions of other people.

I saw a Great Woods show too, though a couple of years after you. Probably around 97, or 98. Wasn't Great Woods known as the Tweeter Center at some point too? I remember pulling up to the venue and seeing that someone had taped a Z over the second T, making it the Tweezer Center. Thought that was pretty neat.

I was also at JazzFest twice, though both after Phish had played there. What a town, and what an event! I skipped the last couple of years but am anxious to see who's playing this year. I think New Orleans needs as much help as they can get at this point.

Agreed. I wonder why JamOn can't play more concerts. I really thought a Dead Concert on NYE (from, uh, say a long past NYE show) would have been sweet! But alas, no such luck...

I find Jam On to be a good complement to The Vault, even though a lot of the material is decades apart. I haven't listened to any channel other than The Vault for extended periods (I'm still at the surfing stage in my subscription), but my impression of Jam On is more live cuts of great bands, not just the "jam bands". As for Dead, Phish, etc, it's all good in proportions, but I don't think I'd care for an all-Dead channel any more than I'm thrilled with an all-Stones channel. While they have a ton of material, there is a limited number of actual different songs to hear.<g> I'd prefer some Deadicated hours and leave the rest of the time open for variety. Playing a full Dead show a couple of nights a week would be way cool, as would any other full concerts available.

I haven't listened enough to hear this, I'll have to give the channel more extended attention! But I just finished reading serious bitching about limited playlists in Alt Nation and Left of Center as well.

I'm a regular JamON listener. It's my first music preset and the main reason besides Howard that I bought the lifetime SUB. I hope for more in studio live stuff to come in the future.

Just spent two days in a rental car with my Sirius and listened to a lot of Jam On.

Yeah, every hour there's a bit of Dead, and a bit of Phish, and when you add in the occasional Jerry/Phil/Bob material plus the Trey material, it does feel like there's a lot of Dead and Phish on the channel. OTOH, it's also cool to hear stuff I'm not familiar with, and some material by bands I don't consider jam bands (live Black Crowes, Hendrix studio jams, live Bob Marley), so I quite enjoyed it all. But it would be nice to lighten the rotation of the guys we already know so well, at least during the day, to make room for new and different.

Out of the 20 presets I have programmed, I'm listening to Jam On and The Vault the most.
