Default Alt Nation repetition driving me nuts!

Is it just me or does Alt Nation repeat songs every 3 hours or so, if not less? I'm getting so sick of hearing that same god damn song by Panic at the Disco. Also they play too much of The Strokes and The White Stripes, every time I turn on Alt Nation it's a given that I will hear those 3 groups, without fail. I've seen a lot of threads about repetition on other channels, this is annoying. I feel like I'm listening to FM radio minus commercials. I don't even mind that they play the same artists regularly, at least give us a different song.

Is there someone we can email who matters? I've sent a "general feedback" and just now to the DJ Madison. I was excited to get Sirius because of Howard Stern and because I heard it's programming was superior to XM, this is quickly proving itself to be untrue.

1st Wave has gotten to be the same, too - if I hear "Da da da" by Trio or "Mirror in the Bathroom" by English Beat one more time, I think I will scream. You think with a whole decade+ of music to draw from you could go more than a day without hearing the same tunes. It's gotten worse in the past few months.

I can't find it at the moment, but the email address of one of the higher-ups floats around here on occassion -- if you can dig that up, a nice email to him may help. (Though I think he's probably been inundated with Fox News mails this week).

Yeah, the repetition is ridiculous. Take the alternative stuff from 1990 and after, and you should have a massive playlist. Instead we get the same 2 dozen songs over and over again. Absolutely insane.

The ones I keep hearing are Duran Duran, Echo and the Bunnymen, Depeche Mode and Simple Minds.

If I hear "Come Undone" one more time I'm going to stick a fork in my eye... and hey, that hurts!

You can try sending emails, although it never worked for me. The best way to get your point across is with your dollars (and warning others)...cancel your Sirius sub and get XM. That's what I did. I'll admit, though, that I listened to Sirius all day...but still, give me something different.

I can't figure out why Sirius doesn't go deeper into a band's music. I've heard stuff on XM, from popular bands, that I've never heard on Sirius. It's good music! Play it!

The alternative selections on Sirius could use a lot of help...

Listen to Alt Nation for one hour and you'll hear every current song the station will play for the next two weeks.

Ethel on XM sounds great currently. A year ago though, they would dig so deep I wouldn't even recognize 75% of the songs on the current Alt-Rock charts.

If it wasn't for Howard Stern I probably would cancel. I had XM previously, and cancelled to go to Sirius I can't see a point in paying $12.95x2 every month when I listen to my iPod most of the time. I guess I am just disappointed with what Sirius has to offer as far as alternative or punk music. I called the main Sirius number, where you put in a channel number and leave a message, I left a message for whoever the "music man" is. Maybe we should start a campaign of calling and leaving messages every day. This seems to be a widespread complaint on Sirius, maybe if we get 20-30 calls a day in to them they will take notice.

I like the idea, but then again, they can't play what they don't have in the first place.

Well, I mainly listen to Hard Attack, so I can't really go to XM. Plus, I'm on the Howard bandwagon, too. So those 2 pluses are better than a slight minus - but I do wish that something will change.

and RyeGuy, you are right - I forgot about Simple Minds and the others you mentioned. Why don't I hear more Descendents on 1st Wave, but I hear Simple Minds on Classic Rewind and 1st Wave AND The Spectrum?

You guys have gotten me riled up enough to send in an email now.

Oh, I do have to give a few points to whoever has been programming DarkWave on 1st Wave... I do hear some interesting stuff there -- which I sometimes wish they'd play all the time.

Ok I've had Alt Nation on for the majority of the day, and they have been consistently playing Coheed & Cambria The Suffering every 3 hours. This is fucking ridiculous. It's seriously right at the 3 hour mark. I called last time they played it (around 6:30pm, it's now 9:45pm) and left them a voicemail saying play another fucking song I just heard this 3 hours ago. They have got to have another song, even if you stick to their radio singles there are at least 3 other songs they could play. I strongly encourage everyone else in this same boat to call once a day and leave a message and let's see if we get noticed.

Does the auto-updating "what's on" thing on this site keep a log? I'd be curious what the statistics look like, most played song, etc. I'm willing to bet they play no more than 40 different songs a day.

I've heard the DJ's have a lot of say in what's played...so obviously A.D. would be a prime suspect in the repetition scandal especially since he's also an FM DJ at a Houston station. I honestly put the blame squarely on him for bringing the FM mentality to the channel.

Please send those letters and emails encouraging SIRIUS to fire that tool!

Wow, so I did a quick google search for "houston rock radio" and look what I came up with: http://www.thebuzz.com/pages/ad.html He looks like a fucking douchebag, and sounds like he could very well be responsible for everything that is wrong with Alt Nation. I don't want to jump to conclusions though, as I am the new guy on the block and don't want to point fingers to anyone specifically. But they seriously have programming issues, this is fucking lame.

"I've heard the DJ's have a lot of say in what's played"

Could some of the blame be placed on the recording companies? In FM radio, it seems that they dictate when the next song is "released" for play, since stations that play music from an artist seem to start playing the "next single" at the same time.

They would benefit when something is played enough to get in someone's head. I would guess that a selection that the DJ likes will be played a bit more than most, but stations like left of center and first wave have no excuse for repeating songs. The reason that these stations exist is to provide an alternative from what is typically broadcast.

Those channels are all repetative and not what would be expected. I still love them but get tired of them and opt more for the specialty shows like Dark Wave and Party out of Bounds and other channels especially HARD ATTACK. But they have improved a tiny bit. If Alt Nation and Left of Center would pull their head out they would realize the very essence of the appeal in those "alternative" stations is really alternative and often unpopular cultish music that appeals to a very select audience.
