Default Van Zandt Brings Garage To Best Buy

Van Zandt Brings Garage To Best BuyDecember 8, 2006
Best Buy and Little Steven Van Zandt have joined forces to debut a Little Steven's Underground Garage music section in Best Buy stores nationwide. The section will feature albums played on Sirius' Underground Garage channel and Van Zandt's nationally syndicated Little Steven's Underground Garage show. The display will also include records from Van Zandt's new record company, Wicked Cool Records.
The Underground Garage display will feature Wicked Cool compilations containing music from all five generations of Rock & Roll. Titles include Coolest Song In The World compilations with songs from the Underground Garage's weekly Coolest Song selections. The section's debut will also include early important albums by The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Kinks, and The Yardbirds, as well as new records by The Who, Joan Jett, New York Dolls, Cheap Trick and Jerry Lee Lewis.
"We're excited to work with Steven Van Zandt, who shares our passion for music and love of Rock & Roll," said Lon Lindeland, Director of Music Merchandising for Best Buy. "We are committed to helping our customers discover new music, and we feel the Underground Garage section will be an exciting way to put the spotlight on great music."
"The Underground Garage and Wicked Cool Records are extremely proud of our relationship with Best Buy," adds Van Zandt. "Too many Rock & Roll artists, new and old, are finding themselves lost in between the Alternative and Hard Rock worlds. Best Buy is making a statement that Rock & Roll is forever."

Went to two Best Buys in NJ a week apart and saw the Underground Garage display which was horrible -- None of the new CD's are in the display and they are out a few weeks now... The salesguy there says that the store employees can't really touch the display --- someone comes in specifically for the display and they haven't delivered yet..

Union, NJ store (Dec 8th)

Secaucus, NJ Store (Dec 14th)

(yes, I care about this more than most as my friends in Richard and the Young Lions are hopefully due in his next batch of CD's coming out on his Wicked Cool Records label)

Amoeba Records is the best record store, but the record store is becoming a dinosaur store. Now that Tower Records has fallen(althgough it has sucked for over a decade)all of these corporate behemoths are carrying a sampling of what the old Towers used to stock.

I don't know about nation wide if there's a comparable record store, but in L.A. and the Bay Area the store of stores for music and movies is Amoeba.

Here in NJ, we used to have a great store called CD Warehouse, but it got sucked into the monopolies... first it got bought by Coconuts (yet kept the CD Warehouse name) and raised the prices and dropped the selections...Then Coconuts went to FYE and lost the CD warehouse name...

Now the only place around here to get a good slection is Amazon Marketplace (used) or Ebay!

Gave up on Best Buy and broke down and ordered the 6 new Little Steven label cd's from the wicked cool website... 6 Cd's for 50 bux and they came in two days (from NY to NJ) during Xmas week...

But... (Theres always a but)

They came loose in a bubblewrap package and 4 of the Cds came with cases that were destroyed... They were all shrinkwrapped, but it looked as if the DHL guy rested a table leg right on top of it and it went thru 4 of them before stopping...

Surprisingly ALL 4 of the CDs were fine... I emailed the folds at Wicked Cool to let them know, but I guess since I wasnt asking for a refund cuz the cd's worked, I wasnt worth responding to... But they REALLY shouldnt have sent them loose in a bubble wrap package without any support inside...

Just a heads up if you want the CD's
