Default Progressive Rock

I'm a huge fan of Progressive Rock.

There are tons of bands in the World producing a whole lot of progressive music. I have a lot of albums by a lot of bands that many have not heard of.

I love my Sirius Radio. Signed up last year. I've listened to regular radio a handful of time in the last year (awful stuff). Sirius is great.

My favorite station is Channel 16. Progressions is a good show. I'd sure like there to be more than 5 hours a week of Progressive Rock though. I'd love Sirius to find it in their hearts to have a Progressive Rock Station someday. I think a lot of people would agree. I think there are a lot of fans of this type of music who would sign up if there was a station dedicated to this type of music. For me... I'm not going anywhere, Sirius is terrific, my suggestion would (for me) just make Sirius perfect.

How many people out there would welcome a Station dedicated to Progressive Rock?

I totally agree with the original poster.

Additionally, over many years, progressive rock in terrestrial radio became synonomous with classic rock, which as we know, it isn't. Progressive stations, such as New York's WOR-FM and WPIX-FM from the 60's and 70's is progressive rock. I really wish Sirius had a true progressive rock station too.

Interesting thing is that some of the DJ's on Sirius channels 14, 15 & 16 were DJ's on true progressive stations of that era.

A prog rock station on Sirius thread...insert dead horse joke.
We had a petition for a prog rock station on Sirius going for awhile.
I like the Prog show they have now, but it's not the type of prog I listen to usually. I like modern, heavy prog. Porcupine Tree, Isis, Opeth... I've given up hearing anything but the occassional Opeth song on Sirius.

Sorry for dragging the horse out again. I'm new to this Forum. Looked back a while and didn't see any current Threads on this subject.

I'm glad you made a post about it. It's good to have new posters requesting stuff that some of us on here, myself included, beg for.

Well ok then... I'm begging.

Listen up Sirius. We want this. Progressive Rock listeners have a lot of money (well, a lot of them do. Some don't work and just follow King Crimson Tribute Bands all over the world, but hey they must have enough money to live that lifestyle, right?....ok, back to the sentence -) and there is really no outlet for Progressive Rock, other than some (pretty good) internet radio stations.

A good Progressive Rock Station on Sirius will sell a bunch of subscriptions. I'd venture to say quite a few more than a Classical Station (not to put down Classical Music).

So join me in my new haunting of Sirius to provide quality Progressive Rock Music 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

I'd would love to see Sirius add a progressive rock station. There is really no place to find this kind of music anymore. I heard a Gentle Giant song a few days ago on the Vault and it really brought me back to the good old days of WNEW FM in New York when they'd play groups like Renaissance and Procol Harum. This is not the kind of music I'd like to listen to all the time, but it would be nice to have available when I'm in the mood for that type of thing.

This is exactly the type of station that I think would be perfect for satellite radio since commercial terrestrial stations won't play this genre.

You'd surely like Riverside (forgot to mention this the first time around).

Any news on that Prog Station yet Mr. Sirius?

I know what you mean, there was one terrestrial station I would listen to when I was in Charleston, SC (105.5). They would play all kinds of different music, stuff you wouldn't hear from any Clear Channel Hell station. But at least once a week I'd call up and request something new from an old band such as Yes or Genesis. They never would play it.

But yes, I will happily pay to add a Progressive rock station if I had to.

Sirius, bring me Prog!

When I was a wee lad in the '80's, anything that wasn't Huey Lewis or Bon Jovi was labeled "progressive," from R.E.M. to the Smiths to the Cure. Now, anything not Britney Spears is labeled "alternative," except that "alternative" bands are now mainstream. So what becomes cool when cool becomes uncool?

I was very surprised to hop in my car this morning and find that there still is no Progressive Rock Station on Sirius.

Yet I was more surprised that there have been no Posts to this Thread in the past 12 hours.

These things need to be rectified.

Got Sirius for Christmas. But up until a year ago I would have chosen XM over Sirius for one reason - XM Music Lab - which is now gone. I got XM in a couple of rentals and enjoyed the Music Lab. After having Sirius for a week or so now, I think The Vault is fine, but XM Music Lab mixed it up a bit more with newer artists and it did a good job of mixing it some prog here and there.

I've often referred to Prog Rock as "thinking person's rock", because you actually have to listen to it, sometimes even ponder it, to fully enjoy it. Most people don't want to invest that much energy into listening to music.

However, I would like to hear more prog. The Vault touts deeper cuts, but much of what they play can be found on many classic rock stations. I like the Zappa cuts and there are a few tracks that they play that you don't hear much anymore. But if Sirius were to update The Vault's playlist with some newer material and add in a few more longer prog tracks, I think it could be a heck of a channel.

In the meantime, I too have to rely on internet radio for good, current progressive rock.

I heard the last two tracks of The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (Genesis) on my way home this evening on The Vault. I don't ever recall hearing In the Rapids and It back to back on any radio station in my life.

Bravo Sirius.

One step closer to a Progressive Rock Station.

I know you're reading this Thead Mr. Sirius.

thats combo is played semi regularly on the Vault along with The Lamia..they seem to favor the Lamb album although I have heard Firth of Fifth on ocasion as well..keep listening and you maybe able to hear Atom Mother Suite in its entirety..heard that more than once when I first got Sirius..there is a spot here on the forum you can go to see whats been played int he past although I dont think its updated regularly
for now we just have to settle for Progressions 5 nights a week
