I want an all Prog, all day, every day channel!

Here's praying that they get rid of Jam_On and replace it with an all Prog channel, hell, I'd be happy if they combined it with Jam_On and made a Prog/Folk channel.
XM tried to combine progressive and Jam Band music, and it was not pretty. Sirius should leave Jam On alone, add a progressive station and have the GD station replace one of those wacky electronica stations. I think that most of us listen to Sirius in the car or at work. We are not generally "clubbing" while listening.

I assume you're referring to the Music Lab on XM. It wasn't bad but it could sound at times like it was floundering to find the right mix. If getting more prog on Sirius would mean combining prog with Jam_On as suggested, I'd be OK with that, but I would prefer keeping a prog channel and Jam_On separate.

BTW, Day 1 of Prog Week on The Vault has been pretty good. But I still would like to hear more current prog like Porcupine Tree, Echolyn, Sylvan, Salem Hill, etc., mixed in. Of course The Vault is a "classic" channel, so hearing the older stuff is still great.

did anybody read the press release:

Grateful Dead Radio will be heard exclusively on SIRIUS and feature music spanning the band's long and storied career, live performances from the band's own archives, bootleg performances from fans, previously unreleased recordings, and even special shows hosted by members of the band. Grateful Dead Radio is expected to launch on SIRIUS this summer

now what is wrong with that?

you dont have to like the dead, you dont have to listen to it, but there are those of us that are looking foward to it

You dudes are going to Laugh. I have had Sirius for 2 years and pretty much listen 24/7. I have NEVER, until reading this thread and others, listened to Jam On. I thought it was like MTV JAMS or something. Not my cup, LOL. I listened for about 6 hours last night. I bet I heard the Dead or some variation of them or Garcia about 30 times. Cool channel. I am kicking myself in the ass.

See? Why would they need another channel dedicated to GD?

UNLESS! They are going to take over that channel once Progressions Week ends and turn it into a Progressive Rock channel!

I was actually thinking the same thing. There was a 20 minute song by the Jerry Garcia Band and the next song and the next sounded like the Dead. I was thinking "who needs a dead channel when this one is already jammin'?"

For my tastes they don't play enough Dead on Jam_On. I wouldn't be against a prog rock channel but don't think there is a big need for one.

Oh, I dunno, 40 years worth of music and thousands of bands to fill the library? I think there will be a much better chance for variety than on a GD channel.

I mean, I just listened to 40 minutes of Yes on The Vault during the Prog Week. 40 minutes, that's 2/3 of the Progressions hour. I stopped what I was doing and put life on hold to listen to that. I don't think it's fair to contain stuff like that to a one hour show.

The Grateful Dead have a channel already, they don't need to have one with their music exclusively.

What channel do they have ? Sorry Jam_on is not the dead channel . They aren't going into the vault. No one artist has a library that can challenge the dead and they have a hug fan base. Prog rock can not compete against that. Politic to get rid of the Elvis channel. That is someone that doesn't deserve their own channel.

But the argument is silly. We are getting the Grateful Dead channel and as of right now there will be no prog rock channel.

I thought all the bitching about the punk channel they day it was released was bad, I hate to imagine how much complaining there will be about the playlist of a prog channel.

maybe that would give Jam On a chance to breath without playing the dead every 45 minutes. I personally can't freaking wait. Talk about channels I could listen to 24/7. That would be one of them.

I am real pleased that Sirius has added a Dead channel, as I have been listening to the punk channel far too much since it's inception. Yep... I am a head who listens to punk.. The amount of music the dead have created could lead them to not playing the same version of a song for two months. I am sure that there will be some Ratdog and solo Phil Lesh music as well. I am not a fan of single artist stations because of the repitition, when I listened to the Who channel I did not hear a lot of unreleased live stuff. I think that dead management will play an active role in this station based off of what I have read. PLEASE NO SPACE OR DRUMS ,, and we can pass on all of Infrared Roses.

I don't get the Grateful Dead. I've never seen the attraction to them whatsoever.
Then again, I don't get Bruce Springsteen, either.

I'm not a big fan of these single artist channels.
I can't think of a single artist that I would want to see with a dedicated channel. Some of my faves are The Beatles, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd...but even with the week-long Pink Floyd channel that took over The Vault when Gilmour's solo album came out, I got sick of it by about the 3rd day.

Even so, I guess there are enough hippie-wannabes that the GD channel is probably a good selling point for Sirius.

I agree, and now to start an entirely new argument, will someone please tell Sirius that the Dave Matthews band is not a Jam Band...
