Default QUES.:A 3rd Party FM Transmitter for my S50 With Home Dock??

I want to be able to transmit my S50 signal throughout my house on any FM radio receiver. Since the S50 Home Dock won't give me an FM transmitter capability can anyone recommend a good 3rd party solution that can plug into the Home Dock to send the signal out with maximum range?

Someone on another Forum recommended the C. Crane FM Transmitter for $70. Info at http://www.ccrane.com/radios/fm-tran...ansmitter.aspx

I don't know anything about this product or it's range. Has anyone had any luck with this product or company?

Belkin has the TuneCast II but it will only go about 10-30 feet. http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_ID=166893

Thanks,

Rob

I was just thinking about posting the same question...but I tried searching if there was already an answer...and I could not find one...

Funny thing is I just measured how far away the built in transmitter works...(meaning the one from the car dock)

Mine is currently about 70 Ft away from my clock radio in my bedroom and going through three walls...and I get a decent signal.

So why are these third party devices only broadcast 10-30 ft. Could it just be a cover their butt rating? I am hoping someone has some real world testing of the best way to use the home dock and transmit to a FM Radio...

I have a home dock ordered....but it will stink not to have an FM transmitter

Man some of those transmiters are so expensive...

It really sucks that after spending $100 for a home dock kit (still waiting for delivery of course) that we have to spend another $70 minimum it looks like to be able to wake up to Howard.

Or maybe it is cheaper to buy mulitple home docks, one for bedroom and then you have to buy a clock radio with an Aux In...(these are hard to find too)

Oh well...hopefully someone out their will find a better solution and let us in on the fun!

I use this one:

http://www.audio-warehouse.com/web/mdl/PLMD1/detail.asp

It's good for the whole house and about 1/4 mile in every direction.. I live in the country, so it would probably be a bit less than 1/4 mile if there were other houses in the way..... I once lived in a penthouse apartment (up 240 feet).. I put the unit in my window and went for a drive in my car.. I could hear it 1 mile away

Note this thing only transmits on 88.7Mhz, & 89.1Mhz.. If you have a strong local station on those frequencies or nearby, it probably won't work... For home use, you have to pick up a 12v power cube... They don't include one.....

It really stinks that the home dock does not have a FM transmitter.. I'm leaning toward just buying another auto dock when they become available.

After calling this company and speaking to the salesperson I was reassured that if I wasn't pleased I could return the Whole House FM Transmitter. Here is the website:

Default FM Transmitter

Thanks to everyone for their feedback.

The C. Crane product I originally posted at http://www.ccrane.com/radios/fm-tran...ansmitter.aspx looks nice but will only transmit between 40-70 feet. That rules it out for me.

I liked the range described by JWT873 on the Pyle unit at http://www.audio-warehouse.com/web/mdl/PLMD1/detail.asp but only being able to use 2 stations (with both occupied in my area) rules that one out.

I'm leaning towards the "Whole House FM Transmitter" at http://www.tawglobal.com/. The info on their site says it will transmit on up to 7 specified stations and at a range of 150-500 feet. That's a big range but I think it might be worth trying for $65. Anyone want to be the guinea pig to buy one and tell us how it works out??

By the way I also saw Sharper Image has a product that looks like it can connect to the S50 via the S50 Home Dock or headphone jack and transmits to a receiver via 900MHZ up to 150 feet. The "splashproof" shower version receiver is at http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/ca...ils/sku__SR286.

If it included an AM/FM radio and FM Transmitter I would have jumped on this.

If I go with the tawglobal product I'll relay feedback once it's set up.

I'm trying to decide if I should keep the S50 + home dock I have (still in the box) or return them - just posted about my dilemma. I don't need it for my car and I do need it for my FM radios, so I'm thinking it might make more sense to return or sell these sharp-looking but not-quite-there-yet devices & buy a really good antenna, but with all these interesting suggestions on how to solve the problem - hmmmm.....

Yeah, I think I'd better solve the antenna/signal problem first and worry about everything else second. For now the most urgent matter is that I re-set my clock-radio so I'm not awakened by David Lee Roth tomorrow morning.

I use one from Radio Shack. You can select one of eight frequencies, one set of four around 89 MHz, the other set around 107. I just looked on their site and cannot find it, but my local store had one last week. It's about $30.

How is the range on the radio shack model...that is what is critical for most of us.

Hopefully we find a low cost solution that gives us the range as well.

Thanks!

I believe they also say that its range is 10-30 feet. I have mine set up in my bedroom and my stereo downstairs picks it up fine, but it's less than 30 feet away.

I bought this one. It works great off batteries, but when I plug the cig lighter cord that comes with it into an adapter, then into the wall, I get an annoying electrical hum.

I just purchased the above fm transmitter from radio shack. I am taking it back tomorrow....it wasn't very good. Granted I live in Boston, so the stations are fairly densely packed, but I couldn't get reception more than about 10 feet away...pretty useless for trying to run it through my fairly small 1100 square foot condo.
