Default ANNOUNCEMENT: Important Info Regarding 1.2 Firmware

Attn S50 Owners:

I have word from a source close to SIRIUS that Firmware ver. 1.0.10 and 1.2 are in fact the same firmware release.

A recent change at the S50 manufacturing facility required that the numbering system on that end roll to 1.2. This explains why some units purchased in retail may have a new firmware version (1.2), but experience some pre-existing conditions contained in the older version (1.0.10).

SIRIUS has since changed 1.0.10 to 1.2 on their end to sychronize the numbering system.

This may expain why some issues are continuing, despite the cosmetic changes to the firmware version. I hear a new version is close to release, which will address bug fixes and other features.

Why not just communicate this? No one will be upset if they were forthcoming. All this secrecy leads one to think that they are being deceptive.

The first post discussing 1.2 was dated Jan 10th

http://www.siriusbackstage.com/forum...=35251&start=0

Why did Sirius take 2 weeks before releasing that information? It almost seems like they are going out of there way to upset people that bought the S50.

All communication failures aside, we are working to get important information to S50 users faster.

When dealing with software updates, openess and careful documention is critical.

Tulanejeff,

What about the fact that I can now get news channels to start showing up as one of my fvorite channels? I never had this before, did you?

I can't speak for that change, but perhaps it was a change on the broadcast side and how the internal tags they send over the air affect the S50's performance.

I can't find the post, but some of you may remember when I suggested this may have been nothing more than a firmware version number scheme change. Seems that is exactly the case.

Amazing how the power of suggestion has made some of us feel our S50 is actually more stable. Then again once you use it for a few days you realize it is really no different.

I think SIRIUS could have done a simple info alert on their web site and all this would have been cleared up without all this confusion.

They have got to release what issues have been addressed with each of these updates, hopefully we'll see that in the future.

I hear that more detailed release notes, outlining both new features, as well as noting what bugs were resolved, are in the works.

Jeff

You should make this a sticky that can only be replied to by mods and admins for them to be able to give us the most official updated info.

Thanks.

One question: Any info on if there have been different hardware revisions?

That is a very good question. I was told by Sirius Tech Support to replace my unit with a new unit with a SID of 084 to fix my loose dock issue. Will Sirius start posting hardware changes that have been released since the unit was released? Do they have a plan to fix the Cold Start / Acquiring Satellite issue? This seems to be a hardware problem with the dock that can not be fixed with software.

Fred,
As with any new hardware device, there are bound to be hardware issues with early productions units. I'm speaking from personal experience, so don't assume I'm in the know.

I'd do a warranty exchange, as I doubt SIRIUS will disclose anything about hardware revisions.

Would being able to schedule a recording of a music channel be broadcast controlled or software? Before updating with1.2 I was able to record Classic Vinyl. Now it will not record but my other Idiots Delight schedule does record.
