Default Memory Full???

My friends S50 shows his memory full, but all songs and shows have been deleted. Is there any fix for this that I'm missing? We tried removing the battery, but the memory is still full. He has not upgraded to the newest firmware. Any thoughts or suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brad

how did he delete the content? THrough the S50's menus or did he fiddle with the file system through windows explorere? Doing it manually through explorer can confuse the unit.

Assuming he didn't futz around in windows then certainly updating the firware to the current version would be the best starting point. If he's on 1.0.1 it's seriously alpha quality and completely bug ridden. If he's on 1.0.10 then the update to 1.2.0 wont really do anything as they are the same version. But it would likley help anyhow as it's sort of like reinstalling windows- with win 95/98 just reistalling the os just seemed to fix stuff- same with the S50.

Default Same problem

My memory usage shows 98% and I have very little content. This problem started showing up when I git the home dock. I'm already at 1.2 on the FW and I tried Reset Defaults and Channels and no help. So is there a fix? Is anyone else experiencing this problem. It won't allow me to record anymore content.

happened to me friday night -

I called sirius tech support saturday morning and after 26 minutes was told I would get a call back either monday, tuesday or wednesday by one of two s50 techs that would have to do a hard reset - since I have to be at work they are supposed to leave a number I can reach them at

kind of frustrating losing all of the stored content I was building up

I just stumbled on this site and found others that had the same problem

call sirius help 1888 539 7474

Mine is just the opposite, I am at about 90% usage if I look at my drive in Windows, yet the S50 content manager is only showing I am using 48%. No doubt this is screwed up, but it is said to be one of the things addressed in the upcoming software release.

When I get issues like this It's time for the magic 3 finger format. That normally streightens things like this out, but it seems like the problem is due to issues with the software so the fix is just temporary until they get the root of the problem fixed.

I suggest do the following:

3 finger format.
then Reset back to factory defaults
Then dock with computer and run MSS software and let it update channels to latest channel bitmaps and voice tags.

I'll pm you the 3 finger format instructions.

Thanks to all, I'll see him today, I think he was going to return the unit to Best Buys this weekend, but if he didn't I'll pass along the info.

I’m no expert but I don’t think the 3-finger salute is needed. I think a plan restore to defaults from MSS should do fine- I think that just rewrites the firmware without jumping through all the hoops of the 3 finger salute.

Could be wrong though.

It’s not posted here publically. You can brick the unit if you do it wrong so it’s been decided not to openly post it. But someone will likely PM you with the instructions since you asked.

That said- what’s the error? Does windows see the device as an external hard drive?

If so search for the “hacking” thread and there are instructions in there how to download the image file. If you manually copy it into the root directory of the S50 through windows explorere then reboot the s50 it will reflash itself.

I am not SURE, but I think the 3 finger salute forces the process when the device isn’t visible to windows. So if windows CAN see it then the manual reflash in the Hacking thread should work and save the need for the 3 finger salute.

me_rubin and efudd thank you for your replys and info

Sirius tech called me back, but when I called them I just missed the person Amber that is going to step me through a ( hard re-set )

Amber is supposed to call me tomorrow on my cell phone while Im at work to instruct me to do the hard re-set

I have a feeling the hard re-set will be the same as the three finger salute

I will post my results after speaking with Amber tomorrow

Again thanks for the help

The secret reset is the 3-finger salute. Good luck with them calling you back- they are notorious for not keeping their word to get back to people.

Amber did call back when she said she would and stepped me through the hard re-set process that took approx. 1/2 hour

everything is back to normal again and working fine

going through sirius help was very frustrating -

unfortunately she spoke very fast so I cant really remember how to descibe the process she stepped me through -

good luck to all and thanks for the help

I'd bet, or at least I hope the new f/w will reoair a lot of bugs in the S50.
