Yeah, I used to love it when I 1st got it.

Now I'm less than impressed with all of the bugs.

It sucks having to hope and pray all day long that the thing is recording properly at home.

Well put it this way, I've done virtually every function that I plan on using and happy with it. Car dock, home dock, portable, recorded over night, whatever it seems rock solid and no issues.

I'm willing to except minor bugs like any other high tech gadget.

Guess if I go swimming with it I might be upset it doesn't work anymore.

Just have fun with your S50. There are a lot of haters on this board and even though I have had some issues with mine, I still love it. I use it more than any electronic device that I own.

Just today I had to do the old 3 finger salute due to the fact that for some reason, all of my recorded content would not play through the S50. It was really weird. My MP3's would work but I would get no sound from my recorded content.

So I resorted to the 3 finger and everything works great. Luckily I didn't have too much radio content and all of my MP3's were backed up on my PC.

You will have issues but at some point but hopefully they won't bother you that much.

really good thread!

I love the f*/cking thing !!!!

I never, ever use the "scheduled-recording" feature....

This is the major Problem area with the S50, as you can obviously see by this thread (;

Today I listened to The ERIC THE MIDGET Show on the portable while driving to work. Then I listened to Thursdays HOWARD while at work, .... I also listened to the first hr of the Friday HOWARD SHOW which I "LOVED" while in the shower! I also recorded some NFL in the middle of the night.

This thing is the "bomb" @ work, so many options to listen to at any time.
I'm going to be unstoppable when I get a second car dock :-)

You did the right thing by getting the S50, coolest gadget of the year, BY FAR !!!!

Good Luck!

OMG, and I do not even believe in god. What are you people thinking? This is not a good product. When are you people going to let go. Try docking to a vehicle dock for say 8 hrs. and see if it works like they say. The other thing is when it came out it was 50 hrs of recorded time. They never said it had to be broken up into 2 hr. incriments. WTF are you people thinking?

Then why don't you either get a refund or sell your unit and stop posting on this site?

I bought it to record Stern and since 1/9 I haven't missed ONE minute of the show (except for the few second fades between recording blocks)! Just leave the sucker on in the home dock 24/7 and record 2 hour blocks with no gaps.

Works fantastic!

Default New S-50 - Questions

Ok Ive been reading the love hate relationship here.

All I want to do is to record to the S-50 and bring it to work where I cannot get a steady signal stream, it goes in and out during the day.

I will be getting the car kit and have a home dock as well.

Can I leave the S-50 in my car at night and let is record HS, and by using the Car Dock in need to schedule 1 minute gaps every 2 hours. (Can you skip the 1 minute gaps and just program a Start and Stop time ?? in the Car Dock.

For when I bring it in to the office, I still plan on using the External antenna to play "Live" content, but should I go with the Home Dock or use the Car Dock. Since I want to do a FM transmitter to other radios. What is the Transmitters range with the Car dock ?

And as for setup with the new unit, are there any steps for updating to the latest Firmware. I will be switching service from a Sportster Replay.

I would keep the Sporster, however the sporadic signal in the office is a pain when you are trying to listen to a show in its entirety.

And the recording to a computer, my understanding is that you can only play it through the speakers on the computer. Is it possible to burn it to a CD. ???

Default LOVE the S50

I record so much on the S50 that I have a hard time getting to all of it. I record Stern every day from the Replay. Drivetime is from 9-9:25 so start at 9:30 to 11:30 and 11:30 to 1:30. I have yet to leave any kind of gap, but, from what people have 'said' on here, it seems that that is only necessary with the home dock. Getting one soon as well as the BoomBox! Can't wait! One thing I've found out is that you can hold in the Play/Pause button to delete anything. It will ask you if you are sure if you want to delete. This is really cool because I was having a hard time figuring out which Stern show to delete because the replays don't have the date on them in the 'Delete Content" function. Just when that segment is over, go back and hold in Play/Pause and DELETE! This works with any other contect, too. This is in the manual but some might have missed this....just like I did. Anyway, the only thing I've had trouble with is the darn thing shutting off by itself - which is rare - if I hit a bump while driving or something. Maybe I just didn't have it secure enough but this is very very minor and seldom. If you've read this far, keep on keepin' on! LOVE SIRIUS!

Default S 50 Tricks

Good to know about the delete function on pause/play.

What about the recording in the car dock.

If I wire the dock to a unswitched power supply in the vehicle, can I program the S50 to start at a certain time and stop at a certain time.

and

What about the software for the S 50:

From what I read it just backs up what is recorded on unit, is there any way to burn it to a CD for playback on a CD Player.

I'm almost positive that the car dock does not support the powering-on at time of scheduled recording...only the home-dock, I may be wrong but don't think so. And, to be compliant with laws and regulations, one cannot upload from the S50 to any other device. Would be nice, but understandable.

You don't need 1 minute gaps to record on the car dock.

Yes, you can leave it on all night in the car with power, that's what I used to do.

No, you can't burn anything off the S50 to cd. The files are a proprietary format that can't be used anywhere else.

I love my S50. I still have had no problems, but i am using the car dock until the executive dock comes in (at the pre-raise price).
