I had a similar problem recently, Squid, when I tried 3-fingering after losing my recorded material playback. I forget the exact point that the procedure failed, but I think it was where yours did.

I just ended up returning it to BB (again).

Default 3 Finger Salute guide now updated for firmware version 1.41

Here it is!

I finished updating the guide for the latest firmware v1.41. Several people had expressed interest in this. It's available back at the top of this thread on Pg 1.

http://siriusbackstage.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79254

I added a few more screen captures and replaced a few that had changed from the previous firmware version. I continued to clear up some confusing wording so hopefully it is reading more clearly now.

I left a section in the document for those who had the old firmware files with the car dock updates as well.

Go grab a copy and tuck it away for the day you need it. As we all know, you will need it.

Enjoy,

Mike

I got some requests for this posts. Apparently it had moved down the list to a point where it was not available unless you were able to search in the archives.

I think it is a candidate for a sticky. I know the mods will consider this a "Bump" but I'm just trying to help those who need it.

Arguably the most valuable document on the form. Should be sticky.

Default Thanks me-rubin, can I pay you?

I've recorded Howard every day for many months (since the S50 first came out) without a problem. All of a sudden it quit recording. All saved songs and shows were gone, but memory said it was 100% full. Tried to reformat the drive with Windows but it wouldn't work.

So I followed your excellent 3-finger instructions, and I'm recording again. Thanks for putting together such a valuable document. Do you have a Paypal account I can send some $ to? I believe in the shareware concept of payment when someone gives me something I need.

Thanks,

-Bill Robbins

Thumbs up sticky

I haven't had to do the three finger (yet), but I've got this doc saved and I'm *ready*. I'll vote for a sticky.

Just my two cents, it should be a sticky.

Default Sticky This Thread!

I haven't had to do this procedure yet, but I'm gonna bump this thread up, because I too think that it DEFINITELY deserves a place on the "sticky list", if for no other reason than all of the people that have been helped by it - these guys (me rubin, droobie, et al) invest all of this time and effort to help all of us out, the least you can do is make their invaluable advice readily available - c'mon guys - STICKY IT!

DAB - A Big Thanks to you for finally making this a Sticky. I'm sorry to say that this thread probably has been used by more people to get them out of a "Sticky" situation. Let's hope this is the last time I need to write such a document. Thanks for the sticky!

Had you asked us to sticky it? I don't recall if you did or not. But I remember when the S50 initially came out where asked not to provide this info at all. So this may have been why we didn't. We won't play their game like that again though.

Default ME_RUBIN Excellent Job

Mike;

Your beginners guide is excellent and fixed my messed up S50.

I did find two problems that might be useful to others as an appendix.

All went well until I got to page 30 showing a window with "Device Settings".

My window did not have the bottom section with a button named "Restore Device to
Factory Defaults". This is a very important step. I am using Windows 2000. I
tried it on my laptop with Windows XP with the same bad results. Looking at the window, I could see the top of the outline for this part of the window. The light
bulb went on and I realized that my font was probably too large and since this window has no slider or "strech" ability, I would have to change the font to get
the picture shown on page 30.

In windows XP the Display was set to "Normal" font and I did not know how to change it. So I went back to Windows 2000. Here I opened the Display Icon in the Control Panel and selected the "settings" tab. I moved to the advanced button and found my font was set to "large fonts". I selected "small fonts" and went through the windows reboot. Now when I went to page 29 and started that procedure sure enough the window on page 30 showed up exactly as you printed it in the manual.

The second problem deals with the picture on page 32. I did not get this warning page in my browser. I have set my Windows 2000 default browser to Firefox 2.0. If I had used IE6.0 or Firefox 1.5 this warning message would have started my browser and given the results shown on page 32. The new Firefox 2.0 brings up a box asking if you want to "restore last session" or "start new session". Once you have made a selection it opens the browser and you see the picture on page 32. (an important set of instructions).

The informational box from Firefox 2.0 can get lost or burried on your screen.
People need to look for this problem if they are Firefox 2.0 users.

My solution was to open Firefox, before I started MSS.

I hope you can include these two items in an appendix.

Hopefully, this information will help others.

Thanks for your excellent work.

Regards,

Rog Parmenter
