Default S50 -- No sound when playing back stored content.

Hi Everyone:

Brand new problem for me and my S50. None of my recorded content will playback. This is true when docked in my carkit and homekit, and when I have the S50 undocked and am playing through my headphones. I hear all of the prompts like "Playlists" through my headphones and the carkit though. The screen shows the playback occurring but no sound is available. But, I get the live radio with no trouble. Any advice? Is all my content fried? How can I recover the stored the content if at all? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,

If you search the forum others have had this issue too. Sometimes just refreshing the firmware seems to work, but to be honest, most people end up re-formating and reloading defaults which basically as you put it "Fries" your content. It seems like the only sure way to keep this content is to play it into your pc and re-record it and convert to a non-pac format like mp3 or wav. In this way it becomes more portable.

I say do a search try a few things then don't waste a lot of time trying to recover. just go back and listen for some new music. They repeat a lot of the music all the time.

Hopefully Sirius will figure this thing out for us.

Mike

The exact thing happened to me this morning. How weird? I'll try one of the suggestions posted here.

Default UGH ...

Hi Guys:

Thanks for the help with all this. I just did a system restore and everything seems to be back to working order (minus my 200 plus songs of stored content ... and multiple Howard segments). What a bummer. Time to start building the content back up ...

Sirius support seems to think that the channel realigment signal they sent last week is the culprit. But, this was only a best guess on their part. Everyone with an s50 should prepare for data loss ... especially when the Sirius tech support fellas are running into the same problems we are. At least this is what "Gary" told me.

Default Warranty Replacement Time.

Hey Everyone:

Well, it seems as though I was premature in announcing my success. The darn thing is not working. So, I will wait the 2-3 weeks for a warranty replacement. What a pain. And, good luck working through your issues with the warranty folks. They tried putting me through the wringer ... do not budge ... make them send the replacement unit first. Do not let them talk you into sending your complete unit prior to receipt of the replacement unit.

UGH ... again,

Tom

Got up today and discovered mine had the same issues! ARGGHHH!

That's actually the second time I've had this happen. I believe the previous channel realignment also caused this problem. Of course, if you complain to Sirius about lost content, they're just going to point out that anything recorded off their service was never "meant" to be saved permanently. Only your mp3s were "meant" to be permanent and guess what...those still play after the "scramble".

I think that when you couple this "undocumented feature" along with all the other things that require "workarounds" on this device, factor in the now spreading "rumor" that Sirius may not support the S50 any further in its development cycle and all of us "early adopters" are pretty much just testers for their R&D staff (at least Directed Electronics'!) They come here, read the reports from the tech support line and make notes of all the issues and problems. And they don't have to pay anyone to do the testing! We actually paid THEM! Genius!! Brilliant!!

It seems strange to me that each time they ready a firmware release, they have to pull it back at the last second and go back through the testing cycle because of yet another bug that's discovered...

I haven't had as many problems as some of you report, but I'm still getting fairly frustrated with this device. It's just not living up to the hype that abounded last fall. I firmly believe Sirius rushed this thing out knowing full well that it might not be ready and simply hoping that the problems would either get overlooked, ignored or easily "worked around". They needed an extra edge over XM and with the arrival of Stern, they hoped the S50 would be the "free throws that sealed it".

I say they missed the front end!

i too had this problem appear today when trying to listen to stern that was recorded overnight. i didn't hear any audio and fast forwarded a bit and started hearing digital noise. i kept fast forwarding thinking maybe there was a problem with the show at the start...nope...my s50 wasn't working. all mp3s worked and none of my stored sirius content (including my channels) wouldn't play. the time moved on the bottom of my screen, but nothing could be heard.

i searched the forums and decided to try a channel reset. after the channel reset, i was able to record music and talk and i could hear it on playback. unfortunately, all previously stored content was useless so i deleted it.

the good news is that a simple channel reset did the trick on restoring functionality for playback of stored sirius content. the bad news is all previously stored content is garbage and had to be cleared out. i hope this helps!!!

Day 2 and all is looking good after a simple channel reset and deleting my previously stored content. i was able to record the first few hours of stern this morning and listen back. music also recorded fine after the channel reset.

edit...day 3 and all is well.

When I woke up on Sat. with this problem I tried many of the suggested remedies to no avail. I finally had success with the 3 Finger Reset detailed in this forum. It is working fine now.

Default Me too

Today is 3/22 and I am experiencing this now for the first time. I've had my S50 for 3 months, I record Howard EVERY DAY and this is the first time it has happened to me. Thanks everyone for the prior posts about how to fix, it just sucks that all the stored content is gone.
