Default Should I update? Confused

I don't care if I hear crap for starting another thread, but I'm not sure what to do about this S50 junk and I've had it. I'm on hold with Sirius now for like 20 min, even though I doubt they can help.

BTW, I have read the 8 page thread about the new software update.

I'm confused as to this whole update the car dock thing. Does this only apply to whoever tried to update the firmware last night? If I update my S50 tonite, should everything (car dock and homes dock) work fine. So can I update my S50, and I'll have no problems and won't have to do anything to my car or home dock?

What I think is confusing is because I think there is a lot of confusion because of those who tried to update last nite and today. So people be are in differant situations but it is being talked about as a common thing.

Here is my situation, my S50 has the last firmware update (1.2... I think). It works fine, except I can't listen to any saved material. What should I do in order to get everything working correctly and with the new firmware? Default reset through MSS, and then S50 unit update?

Please help, I know people will be pissed about ANOTHER thread, Sorry

It worked fine for me, just make sure you follow the directions in order. that seems to be the issue (or from what i gather). I updated, and it went without a hitch.

Good Luck!

For me, I would be annoyed that I can not listen to any saved material. What's the use with owning an S50 if you can't do that.

I think you have two choices. One, you can follows Me_Rubin's directions for the three-finger salute and see if that fixes it. Two, do the update.

If it were me, I would do the update. Then again, I did the update last night since I was having another bout with the PSRAM issue. The idea that I was leaping without looking certainly came to mind, but I didn't care. Then again, I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree

Or delete everything and do a channel reset and see if saved content plays.

Short Answer Update in a week or so.

If you car dock is not having issues, and you are not having any big issues with the s50 I would wait a week or so.

Yes several people have car docks that are now dead from the update. The first two were reported from the early realease, but others had this happen to them after the update. But it seems that this is a very small percentage and some have stated it was because they did not follow the directions. ( I think everyone did follow directions, I just think there are some circumstances that cause this problem)

Eventually, if you have any problem at all, support will say you must upgrade to the latest version. Support cannot support multiple versions, We all know they are having issues supporting one version.

So wait a week or so. Wait for the flurry of questions get resolved. Allow a few more experts to rise from their experiences here.

If you have any issues at all now, you will be waiting on hold for an hour or more just to get help.

Heck, you waited this long. What could a couple of more weeks do..

Just enjoy your music.

Mike

If I may - I actually use 2 car docks, one in the car and one in the house - has anyone experienced/solved issues with more than one car dock being used? Thanks for any help!

I followed the instructions EXACTLY EXACTLY. Waited till others had success, and now my (car) dock is DEAD. It even gave me the LED blinks saying it was all set...and that was the last time it ever lit up.

I connected while in a home dock, and the S50 restarted and did the download from the satellite(third part). Thus, I did the steps out of order, and this may have caused my car dock failure. If there was even the slightest indication(from Sirius) that performing the steps out of sequence would cause issues, I would have used the direct USB cable. Sirius should have tested the update, and if there is an issue with the sequence, it should have been in a BIG BOLD WARNING.

I had no problems from 2/9 - 3/30, none whatsoever. No PSRAM, no lockups, no missed recordings, nothing. I don't know that waiting a week would help, based on history it will several weeks before they release another update. Next time around I will wait 2-3 days for everyone else to work out the bugs.

Don't feel bad cause you didn't do anything. The tech support knows there is problems...2-4weeks for replacement though. I think they got some engrish speaking people in charge of the s50 support though. (if nothing else)

Default any garaunteed success on this update yet?

i've waited this long and i'm willing to wait a bit more. but is there any garauntee that if i update NOW and CAREFULLY follow the directions that my car dock will be okay?

i've had intermittent probelms with my S50, but have found that if I take care to shut it down and start it up certain ways, that it behaves well. sure, every now and again a scheduled recording won't happen, but with the constant replays of stern...i can survive a missed recording.

i would much rather have my S50 as is, then be down a dock. is there still a reason to fear the update?

Nope, NEVER any guarantees - but I'm in EXACTLY the same situation, and I'm PETRIFIED to mess up what is now a functioning unit (and 2 car docks) - but take a look at the "UPDATE NOW AVAILABLE" thread - I got some good feedback (and some EXCELLENT information!) over there - I may go ahead and do this thing yet........

Waiting a week will not mean you won't have problems. Only If you do more people will have experience dealing with them. Your wait on the phone will be less and possibly the frustration factor will be less.

The firmware is what it is. The hardware is what it is. If it fails because it is defective and this firmware brings it to the surface that will happen whether you wait a week, month or year.

It's your decision to wait or try it as it was our decision to be the first to try it.

In any case. I and others are here to help.

Good Luck

Mike

I updated the day after it was put up the night before.

Other than the fact that the firmware update started itself after the car dock updated, I didn't have any problems.
