OK I think I got this Demo Mode figured out. At least it seems to work.

Replace your Favorite song in MP3 format by naming it ME1000.mp3 and place it in the \system\spoken\directory of your s50.

Now take some pictures and use the converter program to convert them into full size bitmaps.

Store them as dm000.bmp - dm999.bmp

put them in the \system\images\demo directory.

It looks like each bitmap is displayed for one second. If you skip a sequence number then the previous bitmap is displayed 1 second more. So if you wanted 5 seconds between each picture you would have graphics named as dm000 dm004 dm009 etc.

It looks like it keeps on repeating once the mp3 completes.

To Turn on your newly created multi media presentation you need to go to Setup -> Device Settings -> Sirius ID Enter the code 7107

To turn off re-enter the code 7107

Well I'm off to create some more presentations...

Special Thanks to arbopharm for posting the demo mode code.

Enjoy this new Hack.

Mike

One last note. Sometimes it seems to hang. Just pull the unit out of the dock and place it back in. It seems to remember that it is in demo mode and will reset and start playing back at the beginning.

I'm going to give this a try when I get back home. I wonder how much faster the battery will run down?

The latest conversion program will convert to the proper size 176 x 220, just specify fullscreen. It will also convert the graphics format for you, Jpeg, BMP, GIF etc.

The only worry is if the aspect ratio is is far off, the pictures will looked stretched or squeezed. The program converts, it does not crop.

For all you Doobie Brothers Fans

Here is my first attempt at a Demo -

It's sort of like a music video MTV style.

Download the Zip file to a local folder on your computer.

Put the MP3 file into the SYSTEM\SPOKEN\MENU directory replacing the file with the same name.

Put all the Bitmaps in the SYSTEM\IMAGES\DEMO directory. You should delete all the current bitmaps in this directory first.

You can save the old bitmaps and mp3 file if you want, but you can always get the original ones from the SYSTEM.ZIP file

http://download.sirius.speedera.net/...are/SYSTEM.zip

In order to see some of the files on your S50 make sure you have the option to view Hidden files and folders. That option is under the Tools menu item in the My Computer explorer window. Just select Tools -> Folder Options Select the VIEW tab and under Files and Folders -> Hidden Files and Folders, Select the show hidden files and folders radio button. You will need this when you go to replace and remove the old files they are hidden and marked read-only.

To Download the Demo click Here

Once you download the files and put them into the proper directories on your S50 you will need to turn on the demo. To do this you go into your SETUP MENU -> Device Settings ->Sirius ID Once at the ESN screen, with the remote key in the code 7107

At this point power off and remove from the dock. Then put it back in the dock. ( this is the process I followed and it seemed to work )

At power on it should play the demo. And keep on playing it until you put it back into the dock and press 7107 again.

This was a lot more work than I originally thought. It still needs lots more work too. A few notes. Don't do a 3 finger while the unit is in Demo mode. It seems demo mode transends formatting. Especially once you format the device it trys to play a demo that does not exist and thus hangs up. It took a while to undo this situation, but if you get into it, I can help you out here. But word to the wise don't do that. What happens is after you format on reboot, it goes to the creating data screen and hangs there.

Also make sure the MP3 plays. While docked, you can use media player or some other mp3 software and point to your removeable drive. I had two occasions where the mp3 file seemed corrupted and did not play and hung. I tried, removing battery but it still hung. Once I replaced the mp3 file again it seemed to work.

Try it out. I think the people who made the S50 demo, must have some sort of tool to help them allign the screens with the songs. sort of like a Adobe Premier. renaming all the bitmaps is a pain. What we really need is a timeline and then the software could name the files accordingly.

Enjoy my first attempt. If things go terribly wrong, you can always restore back to factory defaults, just make sure you are not in demo mode when you try it as it still remains in demo mode.

It's not quite video yet, but we are getting there.

Enjoy,

Mike

I created an Install Script file now in the zip download.

It's easy to install.

Just download the zip file and unzip into a temporary directory.

Double click on the install.cmd file. It will copy the files to the proper directories and make a backup of the files prior to installing.

Once you have it installed, to start it, you will need to turn on the demo. To do this you go into your SETUP MENU -> Device Settings ->Sirius ID Once at the ESN screen, with the remote key in the code 7107

To turn back off enter 7107 again.

Did anyone have any success in running it?

Thanks,

Mike
