Question S50 and playing "my songs"

I've been an S50 owner since Dec. 05. I typically use it in my car so I can use the love button to save songs for the gym, running, etc. Recently, while I was in my car, I wanted to listen to "my songs" vs. the live feed. I could see the the saved songs were playing, however, the sound didn't come through the FM transmitter. I'm I doing something wrong? I know that when I lose the signal, it asks to go to playlists. But, when I do I can't hear the music, however I know it is playing because I can see the time lapse on the screen. Any suggestions how to fix this? Thanks

Does it work in your home dock (if you have one)?

No, I do not. The only time I've really listened to the saved content is while it wasn't docked.

Plug headphones into the top while its in the car dock and see if you have audio. You might have run into the encryption key changing bug.

Well, I put the ear plugs in while the unit was on during live feed. I did receive the music through the ear plugs. Then, I tried the same during playback of playlists..... nothing, dead silence. Then I took the unit out of the car dock while it was on and with the ear plugs still attached. I had music! Of course, I didn't really think much of it since I could always hear the music while off the docking station. I put the unit back in the dock, turned the power off and on. This time the playback of "my songs" worked over the dock. I'm not sure what might have happened, but it works now.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've read about the 3 finger fix a while back and I'm glad I didn't have to ask for a refresher. I've been a subscriber since ~15,000 sub count, and I've been a member of this forum a long while. I truely appreciate the responses. Subscribers like me can always count on consructive feedback from the SBS forums. Thanks. Mongo's tail wags again!

So it appears the bug isn't fixed after all. When I went back, later in the day, and turned on the unit, "my songs" still wouldn't play over the car dock. I did some fiddling around and realized that "my alt nation" would play and my own downloaded playlists would play. It seems it's just the audio from "my songs" saved using the love button that won't play over the dock. How strange that when I put in the ear plugs and turned the unit on/off it worked for a bit. Any other suggestions? Also, what will it mean to use the 3-button fix? Will I lose everything currently saved. Thanks again for the suggestions.

If the encryption key does change, then new songs you love might play with the new encryption key. Old songs will not play.

Try saving a new song and see if it plays.

If that does happen, then just 3 finger it and start over. Sorry

Okay, I've initiated the 3 finger salute because it definately sounds like the encryption key problem.... new songs play and old ones don't. Anyway, when I followed the directions and came to the point to connect to my pc (with MSS opened), windows said that it did not recognize the hardware. This is a first. I've never had a problem connecting my device to my PC. However, I haven't actually connect for a while. Any ideas how to get my device recognized so I can continue with my firmware loading? At this point I'm stuck because I've already erased the data from my S50.

One more point... I did update to the latest version of MSS.

If it does not recognize the PC and the PC does not show a shared drive then you have an issue.

I'd try to do a microsoft update to see if you have all the latest microsoft patches.

Even if MSS does not recognize it that is ok because you can manually copy over the file, but the PC MUST recognize the device and give you a drive letter for the S50.

Remove Power of the S50 and reset also reboot PC. Try again.

Oh boy. Now I'm starting to get nervous. I did what you suggested... reset the power by taking out the battery and rebooting my PC. The error message I get when connecting the S50 to the USB cable is as follows:

"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it."

To confirm it wasn't my home PC causing the problem, I tried to connect the unit to my work laptop and got the same message.

It sounds like my S50 drivers have been wiped clean. Any suggestions or am I done in for? I imagine the warranty dept. won't do anything since I tried the 3-finger salute.

I can't help you, but I'm sure someone can. Don't worrt about the warranty dept., they have offered to walk me through the steps of the 3 finger salute, I turned them down and follwed me_rubin's. So, that's one worry out of the way. Hope someone helps you out.

Make sure that it is all the way down into the car dock. Something similiar happened to me where the antenna connection would come and go and then finally no signal. While looking at the S50 in the dock it may not seem out of place, I found that just a slight push downward picked up the signal again. Seems the slight vibrations over time caused the S50 to lift up very slightly. Maybe it might work for you.

One other thing that did happen to me was a slight static sound over the speakers. This was caused by the cable connection to the back of the car dock. Just a little pressure pushing the cable back in and static gone..
