Nevermind! I don't know what I was thinking when I made my original post!

Big improvement once I removed that FM "blocker." The FM option is pretty useless with the plug in there.

So parked in front of my house, I could not get anything but static on the home stereo. Once I pulled the plug, I could hear a little static, but was tolerable. Then I connected the FM antenna cable and it got slightly better. So I guess the FM antenna helps a little, but not enough that I'd want another cable dangling from the car kit.

I have it plugged into the AUX port on the front of my head unit (which gives annoying high pitched frequency that higher and higher depending on the engines RPM anyone know what that could be?) so I tried the FM transmitter which worked great before, but now it barely works at all...sometimes it won't even take over the FM station. Kinda sucks that I waited for a replacement unit for 6 months and the only thing they did was put a plug on the FM out.

Is caused by your altinator. You can try installing a Gorund Loop Isolator".

I believe they did lower the output power in addition to the plug. i believe the plug was done to try and cover another part of the regulation that says the FM out plug must be a nonstandard plug or something to that effect. it shouldn't be a standard jack that many things will fit.

Oddly enough, I had worse alternator whine on my original s50/car dock. I haven't heard it at all with the new one and the FM signal (minus the plug and with the FM cable attached) has been strong.

I received a replacement car dock this week and it was completely useless. Complete static and no sirius sound or a lot of static on top of sirius sound. I was ready to call sirius and demand a refund until I read this topic. I went to my car and removed the plug out of the unit and now my radio works like before. It took about 10 seconds to get the plug out and makes all of the difference in the world.

I thought it was a plastic stopper until I removed it. It's actually a tip and ring mini jack with a solid plastic top. I haven't pulled it apart yet (I will) but I've showed it to some audio engineers up at the office and they say it looks like it works as a terminator on the FM antenna input. It squelches the signal until you remove it and then it works like before. I doubt that Sirius had to change the internal transmitter at all, apparently the FCC was fine with the plug that SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED. ;-)

PLEASE HELP

When I check me antenna aiming with the plug in and also with the little haning antenna in, it shows no FM signal.
Is everyone saying that it is better to just have the plug out and no antenna in to have maximum reception?

Thanks

The antenna aiming screen has nothing to do with the FM transmitter. It shows the Sat signal and the Terrestrial signal which only shows activity if you are in range of a ground repeater, usually around major metro areas.

Reception will vary from installation to installation. I would try it with the plug out and antenna in. Make sure the power and sat antenna cables are routed away from the FM antenna.

Must be! After opening the package, setting up the service onto my preexisting account, and giggling with delight at the functionality of the S50 on the home dock, I almost cried when the static almost knocked me out of the drivers seat when hooked up to the car dock. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out why placing my finger on the back made it clear. Of course, I was the antenna at that point, and after rushing here to get a clue about the chaos in my car, realized I needed to take that damn plug out. Now it's super! Helps to have the little antenna too...

Love it!

You people on this board are fabulous! I KNEW I could get my problem fixed or answered here, and you did it again! I've had an XACT for 2 years and the S50 for 26 hours... Customer Service never mentioned that danged plug. I'm online here and in 3 minutes I've got my answer and perfect reception through a home stereo system. NOW I can move the XACT to the Rec room with it's boom box and am truly living portable. Both units work in the car, go outside on the deck, and are living large on both floors of the house. Thanks a million - AGAIN!

I still have the original car dock.

Can someone post pictures of the new dock w/plug inserted, and also a pic of the plug by itself? I want to see what this nuisance looks like.

Default Thanks!

I would also like to express my appreciation to everyone on this board for the incredibly helpful info you provide. I just got my S50 the other day and this site has saved me tons of frustration (especially this thread!).

Thanks again guys!

It's really strange that the only thing they had to do was insert a rubber stoper. It's not like it's a speaker hole. If you put your finger over it does the signal go away?
