I assume you mean the plug on the car dock? If so, just take a sharp knife, insert it around the plug and gently pry out the plug. This procedure should take no more than 5 seconds to perform.

Isn't the FM out on the car dock only for that little pig tail (which didn't seem to do anything in the first place)?

And, if there is a plug in it, why would removing the plug be so hard to do?

On the new S50 Car Docks, Sirius in order to satisfy the FCC with the FM Transmission of the car dock, pushed in a plug in the FM transmitter hole in the back of the car dock. Pull out the plug and you have the same FM power output as the old docks.

You telling me that the only thing that was "disabled" on the S50 was the FM antenna input?

I don't buy it. Mine WITHOUT the FM antenna broadcasts 300-500feet in all directions through brick walls. With the antenna, it's about the same but a little clearer.

Same goes for my Sportster Replay. No antenna and it's throughout the house no problem.
Adding an antenna should help though.

With the plug that Sirius installed in the FM Antenna hole, the new car docks that are being shipped are virtually useless as a FM transmitter.

I just picked up a new S50 recently to replace my broken Starmate. The first thing I noticed was the FM play was horrible. I haven't removed the FM plug yet (will be doing that tonight), but my question is, should I leave it empty or connect the little cable antenna that came with the car kit? Obviously, once I'm out in the car, I can test it. I'm just wondering if anyone already knows the answer.

Default FM Out Plug

Yeah I also noticed that they had plugged the FM out. There is a little insert in the new documentation that comes with the unit that shows that it is an actual plug in the FM out. I figured it wasn't a big deal because I don't use the FM out plug in my car anyway. I have it plugged into the AUX port on the front of my head unit (which gives annoying high pitched frequency that higher and higher depending on the engines RPM anyone know what that could be?) so I tried the FM transmitter which worked great before, but now it barely works at all...sometimes it won't even take over the FM station. Kinda sucks that I waited for a replacement unit for 6 months and the only thing they did was put a plug on the FM out.

My car dock was broken and I wasn't thrilled about the new one with the FM plug. Silly me! Once the plug is out it works as well if not better than my original. If you look closely, the FM plug even has a flat side on it that helps you remove it by offering a handy spot to insert a small tool to pry it out. I think it's funny that the s50 has the plug installed but you still get the FM antenna cable in the box. There is a fun new brochure installed that tells you not to remove the plug unless a professional installs a direct antenna feed box. Probably not a bad idea but not necessary once you pull the plug out. I can safely drive down the road knowing that in Dallas I can pull up to the car next to me and totally drown out the gospel station that is usually on 88.3 with the likes of Howard Stern. It's fun to watch people punch at their radio trying to figure out what in the world has happened to their christian rock...

Pull the plug. If this satisfied the FCC and all we have to do is remove it. Big deal. I did notice that my new s50 and car dock have add-on FCC ID stickers on them.
