Default S50 for $79.99 Question?

Hey. I'm seeing this promotion for the S50 for $79.99 after $100 mail in rebate at the Sirius online store. I'm looking through the fine print of the terms of the rebate and can't seem to tell if, me being an existing customer, I can utilize this promtion as a tuner upgrade/swap. I'm using an Xact unit right now but was thinking about asking for an S50 for christmas. But, ONLY if I'm eligible for the rebate. Can anyone say for sure?

Talking Sirius S50

I just bought one today at Best Buy. I also wondered if they would do the same. So I powered it up and called Sirius. The rep assured me that not only would I get the rebate but also swapped over the existing time left on my old Xact account, so get that new S50 and enjoy! Also , make sure you keep copies of all paperwork.

This is awesome I almost bought one today from radio shack for 129 with rebate but I ran out of money and was going to do it next week. Now Im definatley getting it from Sirius. 79 is a great price. How long is this going to last? I couldnt see an expiration on the deal.

Everything I've seen showed the rebate expiring 12/31/06.

Best Buy is offering the radio for $180 plus $100 rebate as well. At least that way, you don't have to wait for delivery.

Oh and Sirius does just xfer your service over. I phoned them up, told them my current radio broke and I had a new one I'd like to replace on my account with and they took the radio ESN, then I was up and running in a few seconds. I even double-checked that my old radio was no longer on my account and the CSR confirmed.

I guess that's my next step. Actually reading some more threads in this discussion and seeing if the radio is actually worth getting. I always thought they looked cool, but didn't really know about the quality. Heh...can't really be any worse than my xact stream jockey: 1) some of the buttons on my xact don't work (I use the remote), 2) light on the button interface doesn't always work.

Most of the S50's problems are in using it for recording
I use mine as a live radio only I don't record, I don't love songs,
and I never use it as an MP3 player.

So I never have a problem with it.

Recordings do not always start but, with new firmware this has improved.

Loving songs...every once in a whle the encyption key changes...this means
all your loved songs no longer play, time to erase all the loved songs and
start over.

As an MP3 player it's 512mb memory and 4 hr battery life and the lack of a resume leads me back to my Ipod every time. I can't even listen to one
Stern Show all the way through on it.

All that said, Plug it into your car look at the pretty color display and enjoy.

Oh ya it also doesn't have song/artist seek.

If you don't record, don't "love" songs, and don't use it for MP3's, then why did you spend all of the money on a S50

Why didn't you just get a Starmate? Or a Sirius One?

I was a sucker for the color display and I couldn't bring myself to buy a monochrome display when I could have color.

I had planed on using the other features, but I found them troublesome to really use them. I couldn't get through even one Stern show playback with it. Every time you need to pause the show it was impossible. The pause would time out then I had to FF back to where I left off. And it can't play one Stern show without rechargeing it.

Don't get me wrong I would buy it again but, it has its limitations.

Fair enough! I was just wondering.

$79 for an S50 is BY FAR the best deal going. People will be sad when these are all gone.

I ordered mine from BB today. My dad has one and hasnt had many problems with it. I did the three finger salute to it one time and it has worked flawlessly ever since (several months ago). So Im hoping I dont get a crappy one.

Darn good deal. My wife decided she wanted one she could save songs on and I just can't get into the Stiletto so I could give her my S50 and I was afraid to buy a used one. At least this will have some warranty. Although I got screwed on the $50 rebate the first time, I'll be more diligent on this one.

And hopefully I won't jinx mine but it has been working very well, but I do need to recharge 1-2 times a day...

Blazer_5, your experience with the S50 sounds exactly like mine over the past 8 months. I've also stopped loving songs and have struggled with the usefulness as an mp3 player. But I do love looking at it in my car at night!
