Default Need advice about NEW S50's

Ok, I had one of the original S50's and oddly enough, did not have any major problems with it other than a lock up every now and then. Traded up for the Stiletto.

Now, one of my good friends is eyeing up the S50's for $79 after the rebate. I told him the old ones had problems but I didn't know about the new s50's.

Are the NEW S50's, the ones that are arriving in stores now, more stable?

Any help would be great on this so I can tell my friend which radio to get.

that's what I wanted to know too ! Of course I'd love the stilletto...but for the money ($100.00 or so) is it time to get a s50. I went threw many units last year and returned it because of the malfunctions vs, the price. Now that it is so inexpensive...should I get it ?. I'll deal with the inperfections for the price I think !

I think its all a matter of luck. If you get a "good" one, they appear to mostly work ok. The newest firmware appears to be fairly stable. Bear in mind any accessories you buy don't work with newer radios.

My advice: Buy retail and make sure you get the extended warranty. Don't leave yourself having to deal with Sirius warranty. $89 after rebate is a nice price.

This is pretty much what I told him. buy the S50 but also buy the CC or BB protection plan.

I don't really want a Stilletto. Too heavy to carry around in my tshirt pocket and don't really need live portable reception. I'm thinking about buying a new S50 for when the one I have now craps out.
