Default Just Bought - several ?s

Soo, for Christmas I bought my dad a Sirius One. I've always wanted an S50 for my other car, but never got around to getting one. With the Christmas sale, I couldn't pass up the $80 for a S50. So I ordered it yesterday.

I see you can put songs on it from your computer, correct? How much storage space does it have? I've seen 4 hours and 50 hours. Well, how many gb?? Is this a rpelacement for that iPod on my christmas list?
You can record live radio. Does it have the DAR features, like TiVo for radio? Like rewind, pause, ect?
How reliable are these units? I see lots of people have problems.
Thanks

Reliability is user dependent- DAB on here had the greatest S50 ever, I've had 4 that were not the greatest ever. I used mine as an Ipod replacement- I think it's 50 hours of music or something like that. And yes, you can record Sirius content and then start/stop/rewind/fastforward... pause doesn't work all that well though because the unit turns itself off pretty quickly after you hit pause.

When it's not docked right? Pause has no issues when it's docked. Actually the S50 is quite stable as long as you DON'T use it as a portable.

I respectfully disagree. I have listened to EVERY SINGLE HOUR of the Stern show portably with no problems. The pause thing does get annoying, but I've learned to deal with that small issue.

Got it in. MP3 player function works great, even in the car dock. However....it doesn't work with sirius. It goes to the 184, but I don't get any sound, or anything. I'm getting signal, but never got the activation or anything. What do I do? I want Sirius on this puppy!!

Oh, btw, I got a free home dock. Ha! They charged me for a home dock, which I did NOT order, so I called them up. They refunded the difference, but they sent out a home dock. I'm not opening it though, I imagine they want it back. If they don't, it's free!

You need to contact SIRIUS, they will need to resent the activation. Just make sure you've got a good signal and can hear channel 184. Make them stay on the line with you until you get the message on your tuner that your subscription was updated. Then you should be good to go.

By the way I disagree with Rusty, I used mine as a portable recording and listening to sat programs almost everday and I never had any issues. I love how folks like to generalize!

Let us know how it works out for you!

I can't hear anything on 184 though. That's the problem.

If the tuner has never been activated before you should be able to hear channel 184. When you initially plugged the tuner in did it update? Did you see it updating? 10%, 20% up to 100%? How do you know you've got a signal?

I just saw a blank black/bluish fade screeen with a # in the lower right corner and what looks like a cell phone service display with 2 basr in the lower left corner. It says 184 on it, and that's all. I never saw a 10% 20%...

Do I need to reset it?

Same problem with mine that I received last week. Replacement on the way. I have tried everything to get it back, nothing will work. Car dock firmware has to be screwed or someting. Shows the signal meter in the corner, but no signal when you go to antenna aiming screen. Antenna working as I am now using my Starmate Replay until replacement arrives.

Yeah, that too. I forgot about that. I guess a call to sirius is in order.

Don't know if you got the answer to this or not so...
The total memory is 1 GB of flash memory. Of that, only up to 512 MB can be for personal content; the rest is reserved for Sirius content. So I would keep your iPod if you want to keep a large personal collection of mp3s on a device.

Uhhhh...so I guess the past year that I've spent listening to my S50 while on the treadmill at the gym has been nothing but a figment of my imagination? Jeez...I always knew I was hearing voices but now music, too! How cool is that? ;-)
