Default Signal Problems - First Time

I hope this is not the beginning of the end of my S50: I've had it a year with relatively no problems; however, for the past few days I will turn it on in my home dock and it shows no signal (even though when I check the antenna strength it shows it at approximately 80%) - so I have gone into my account and have resent the signal (as suggested by someone else) - that was this morning. I listened to the football game error free - turned it off and then a few minutes ago I turned it on again and it said "no signal" - then two minutes later it began playing.

Anyone have similar problems or have had this type of issue in the past?

I see you're in Las Vegas, well, this problem has recently happened to several of us here in town who have the S50. I had my S50 in my home dock at home and at work and it worked great for about a year with the antenna never coming close to pointing at the sky. Now the "Antenna Aiming" reads at 80% on the terrestrial bar and all of us get the same "No Signal" on the screen. This started last week 12/11/06 so we're thinking Sirius must be having problems with their on ground repeaters. Also, I used to be able to get a signal in my car in our parking garage at work, but since last week, as soon as the car antenna gets covered by the garage ceiling, the notorious "No Signal" hits the screen. I guess next week on my days off, I'll be moving my home antenna outside were it is recommended to be in the first place.

Hello - thanks for the return message.

I live in Summerlin and my antenna is outside my window and I have never had a problem until a few days ago. My readings indicate almost 80/90% terrestrial and satellite receiving and yet it is reading no signal. Strange that you are having the same problem in LV as well. Are other cities having a similar problem?

Any suggestions from anyone would be appreciated.

That's weird that we all seem to be having the same problems at about the same time. I'm still thinking that it has something to do with Sirius's ground repeaters or with their satellite aiming. I live off of the 95 and Durango and I'll be placing my home antenna outside on Tues, I'll let you know if there is any improvement on my reception.

I'm glad to see this thread. I live up in Seattle and my terrestrial signal went away after that huge wind storm we had on last thursday. I thought it might be related. But, now it sounds like it's a problem everywhere? I sent Sirius an email about the problem, hoefully they can figure it out before Stern gets back from the holiday break.

So I called product support and they told me to do a channel update and that would fix the problem - HOWEVER - when I attempted the update it stayed on 0%! Product support then told me there was no fix and that my unit has died (which is strange after one year of use - without any problems previously). I then called warranty claims and they are sending me another unit - which I really don't want to do as I have almost 300 songs that I have saved. I asked them if they would let me upgrade to the Stilleto (and I would pay the difference) but they refused.

I tried doing a channel upgrade from my car dock and the same thing happened to my receiver (stuck on 0%), so I plugged my receiver into my home dock and the unit began and finished the update. Sorry to hear of your problems and I hope it all works out for you!

BTW, I just met a guy today who lives in Summerlin too and he said he had the same problems as the rest of us are experiencing.

Here's what I have found out since the last post: after a while mine finally updated in the home dock; however, after I took it out and used it in portable mode and then I inserted it back into the dock I had to update again - it has done that continually since this afternoon. At 9:27 I am currently listening to the Stern repeat but there is obviously something wrong. I am reluctant to return my unit because I believe that the next unit could be just as bad or worse and I have all of these songs currently saved.

I feel your dilemma about sending the unit back, that's a tough decision. Just a thought, have you tried removing the battery from the unit for a few seconds? That has worked once for me in the past to reset the receiver.

BTW, I moved my home antenna to a clear sky view outside last night and now I'm getting a perfectly clear signal with no "cut outs". The "Antenna Aiming" screen is now showing a 100% Terrestrial bar and a 0% Satellite Bar, I assume the receiver picks up the stronger of the two signals.

Good luck with your decision, sure hope everything works out for you as I know how frustrating these problems can be!

Hope you're safe up there in the Great Northwest, I see you've had some nasty weather!!!

Let us know if Sirius ever responds to your e-mail, I'm curious to find out what happened too.

This morning I canceled the replacement radio being sent to me - as mentioned, I just don't want to give up the saved/loved songs (almost 300) if I can help it. I now get a sporadic "no signal" but for the most part it is playing OK. What is weird is that everyone who has mentioned this problem seem to be west of the Rockies (except for the fellow in Ontario) - what doesn't make sense is that if it were a satellite or repeater problem then that would be reflected (I assume) when testing the antenna strength; however, when the antenna indicated 80% strength and you get the "No Signal" message then one has to assume it is the receiver itself.

Sirius hasn't responded yet even though I thought they were supposed to in 24 hours, but it's a moot point now. My terrestrial signal came back and I am now back to "normal". I don't know if the repeater finally got power or what. But, it's working now. The weather was crazy but I got lucky and didn't really have any problems capared to some other people. Some people are still without power a week later and it may be another week or more for some...Thanks for the concern.

I'm in New Orleans and am having the same problem starting this morning.

I have not had problems before with my S50, and I've had it for over a year. This morning it is telling me "no signal" even though I have about 50 % of both satellitte and terrestrial.

Shit.

Well, I took the battery out, redocked and then the "no signal" message was on the screen, but I could hear the Stern Show and even change channels. I then undocked, hooked up to MSS and redocked. Everything seems to be working (for now).
