Default S50 Questions

Hi guys new here. I have a question on the S50 before I purchase one. I have been looking at the XM Inno and the S50 and now leaning toward the S50 for reasons that I'm not sure that I would ever carry it outside to listen to anyways. And the S50 looks better. Been doing some reading today and as I understand it the S50 runs off of 5 volts not 12. So wiring this perm into a car unless you downstep the voltage ain't going to work is this correct? I can't stand cig plugs.

That's correct. Easy solution though, wire a cig plug behind the dash. You can hide all that very nicely.

Suggestion: If you are going to wire it under the dash, before you connect that new adapter and tuck it way under the dash, splice in a switch to be able to disconnect the power. In this way when you need to cycle power on the dock you won't have to tear the dash apart.

Does anybody know why you have to take that extra step? I guess my real question is why don't the other radios run on 5v? It is nice with the Staremate Replay that you can just hardwire it into an existing wiring harness.

Someone once told me 5V runs cooler than 12V that is why they decided on using a 5V system.

I do know that in satelite mode the receiver can get warm. Possibly if it ran 12V it might be too hot to handle.

That makes a lot of sense with the large display. I can see them wanting it to run cooler. Does the SL100 run on 5v?

Yes the Stiletto runs on 5V too. Actually the same power adapters will work on the car and home kits.

I'm sure the stiletto draws more current, but the old s50 ones do work.
