Default That's It - I quit - I'm Moving On

You call Sirius and they act like you are the first person to complain about the S50...........after having my third "no signal" in two weeks - and this one has stayed on "no signal" all day - I am just going to cancel my service. I would rather keep my receiver as an MP3 player with the 300 songs I have saved rather than send it back for a refurbished unit that chances are will break down shortly thereafter. I was going to make a pitch for the Stlleto but that looks like it's suffering similar problems as the S50 did early on.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Spring for the additional $20 to upgrade to a Stiletto - assuming, of course, that you paid $330 for your S50 and have a BB or CC warranty that will allow you to upgrade in the first place.

I wanted to wait a bit longer until the bugs were out of the Stiletto, but the `No signal' problem (accompanied by zero antenna reception) made me make the move.

Per most of the threads on the Stiletto forum, I've found the new receiver to be WAY better right out of the box than the S50. So far so good (though I do miss the clock and loving from replay feature).

Are you running 1.4 firmware?

I was having that same probelm about a month ago, come to find out it was my antenna that was bad, not the S50. Buy a new one, they are cheap. It's sucks buying new stuff to keep this stuff working but it's sure better than testicle radio.

Not to be argumentative but I don't believe it's my antenna: whether it's hooked up in the home dock or the car dock I am having the same problems (again, this is after one year of problem-free use) - when I go into my signal strength it shows around 80%. Yes, I am running 1.4 - could that be the problem and, if so, how do I revert back?

They don't send out Refurbished S50s.

Even if they did, it's not exactly made of all used parts that are about to break. Why not let them TRY to resolve the problem instead of assuming they can't? My refurb worked better than my original, brand new one...

The S50 can be a bitch sometimes, we all know that. I was just wondering if you were running the current firmware, you are. 1.3 had a bug, 1.4 seems to be much more stable. It sucks to send it back and lose your songs, but I just sent mine back and recieved my new one in 7 days, they did the advance. When I recieved my new one, I plugged my old antenna into the new one and it wouldn't work. I was having the same problems as you, it would say no signal but show I was getting signal, it was my antenna.

The reason I don't think it's my antenna is that I get the same response whether it's in the home dock or car dock.

Yes they do, My latest was marked "refurbished" I received it about 10 days ago.

Hmmmmmmm I wonder what was "refurbished" about them. I bet there is a crew just matching dock with S50 for ones that actually work. (that's how you get a refurb. digital camera. Someone's old piece of crap that seems to be working for the moment)

If you don't want a replacement, then your only options are to start replacing internal components until you find the ones that are having the problem or sticking with the device you've got.

Since you would prefer to keep a unit with a problem rather than risk getting a unit that may or may not a problem, there's not too many other options anyone can offer. Sounds like you'll be sporting one of the biggest 512MB MP3 players ever. Enjoy it while it lasts as it has as much likelihood of future failure as the refurbished ones, more even since it already has problems...

Default Upgraded S50 to a Stiletto For Free!

Sirius appears to be completely out of S50's -- even for returns. I had my S50 for 2 weeks before it locked up w/ no signal. I called Customer Support this week and they upgraded me to a Stiletto w/ Car Dock at no charge! After selling my old radio (which I got for free after rebate) and getting the rebate for the S50 I'll have only spent ~ $50 for the Stiletto and Car Dock!

Boy for everytime I've heard that and someone gave me a dollar, I'd be able to buy at least one Stiletto.

If that's the case, I'd like you to post a picture of the Stiletto when you receive it. A BUNCH of us here got that same ole song and dance only to find out that CS can't upgrade you--they just tell you that to get you off their backs. I just hope you got a tracking number or something that PROVES you're getting upgraded from them.

I totally agree: I consider myself fairly intelligent and as someone who has lived all over the world (as a foreign service officer) I surely know how to speak with people. No matter who I spoke to - no matter how I pleaded - or how I threatened - I got the same story - "we do not upgrade to a Stiletto and you will have to accept a refurbished S50"!
