Default FCC Compliancy...

When i got my S50 a couple weeks ago i got no reception in the car when using the FM radio. Thanks to this forum, i learned that i can just unplug the plug in the FM Out port. Voila! Now i have perfect reception.

1) Why does the FCC want to tone down the FM strength on the S50. What's the purpose?

2) The plug in the FM Out in the S50 seemed to be a quick fix to a model that didn't comply w/ the FCC. But what about newer units like the Stilleto? Does that have weak FM support with no easy fix? I'm concerned because if my S50 dies and i have to upgrade to Stilleto, i want it to work in the car!

3) Can i get in trouble w/ the law by having my FM Out plug removed?

The signal strength was too strong and would override nearby car stereos on the same frequency. It is not supposed to conflict with other products.

They have a newer design for FM transmitting, where the transmitter is placed closer to the antenna so the signal doesn't need to be as strong if it isn't direct connected to the antenna cable.
