Default Is there a "Tilt Bit" on the S50?

There is a lot of talk lately about Windows Vista having a "Tilt Bit" that works similar to the old Tilt sensor in pinball machines. If someone gets to rough with the machine it resets itself and make you start over.

Does that sound familiar? Windows Vista does something similar with lots of code inside to detect piracy. In Vista Microsoft keeps track of everytime a voltage spike or some other hardware abnormality is noticed it clicks a Tilt Bit. If enough of these bits are hit, the system resets. ( Who knows what it resets!) Specifically this was done to for Holywood in its abiltiy to keep legal HD content.

So the question comes to mind, Does the S50 have some sort of Tilt Bit controlling when the encryption key changes.

Under what circumstances does it change to render all you loved songs useless.

Comments Welcome!

I can't believe you are asking this question. I thought you were the master of encryption key knowledge. I don't have a clue what causes it, but I don't think it is something built into the system. It wouldn't make sense to me for them to do it that way. For example, they already allow you to delete sirius songs based on least played, so we know they internally track some info about the songs. If they really didn't want you to keep songs too long, why not just add code to the operating system to delete the oldest ones automatically? Or they could just periodically delete all of them. To make them so they look like they are playing when they aren't is just inviting calls to customer service, and confused and dissatisfied customers.

I think the encryption key change is an error of some sort. If we could just get someone in the know to tell us what causes it, we could avoid it.

The system will render all music invalid upon reaching one of the following:
1. 15-20 minutes after perfecting your playlists in MSS
2. Upon completion of loving a song you have been waiting for months to hear.
3. On the second full moon in a calendar month (once in a blue moon)

I do have tilt in my laptop...

It measures movement and pauses the disk platter.

Actually, I found out that just reading this post resets the key. Yes, just hours after reading this post I went to listen to stored content and it's gone. At least, most of it, which surprises me, because usually it's all gone.

To be fair, there are a couple of other possible causes:
* It was recording a scheduled recording when I needed to leave, so rather than change channel to stop recording, I just turned it off and took it off the base. That might have corrupted something.
* When I woke up this morning, the unit didn't turn on and record like it's set to. I checked and the dock lights were on, but the unit itself was not on. I lifted the S50 and reset, and it turned on and started recording. It does this every few months, and perhaps that corrupted something.

Anyway, stop posting about the encryption getting corrupted! It's bad luck!

I don't understand, when has there been "a lot" of talk about Vista. OHH!

But really, I have no idea what your post is about.

There was a paper by Peter Gutmann titled "A Cost Analysis of Windows Vista Content Protection"

It was brought up on TWIT last week and other podcasts and publications.

I had that problem with my first buggy unit, but have never seen it with my replacement. So that's since last april, I think. I did delete all My Sirius Songs during the Labor Day replay on H100 but have built a bunch up again since then. I think people take too permanent of a view of their Loved songs. I think of them as transitory. They didn't cost me anything to save so I can delete one if i get tired of it and I can probably catch it again if the threads about all the repetition on Sirius are true...

That doesn't make it OK for them to all fail for no particular reason. If the RIAA is going to demand restrictions, they should spell them out...
