Default Warning: Do NOT Purchase an S50

I would like to issue a warning to all of those people looking to get Sirius or perhaps upgrade their radios... do NOT get an S50. I have personally went through 3 of them.

S50 #1- I got one of the first (if not the first) now famous "No PSRAM" errors. This was later fixed in a firmware update, but I did have to send it back to Sirius.

S50 #2- Volume button broke. Under warranty, so I got a new one.

S50 #3 (current)- What isn't wrong with it? Most of the time it won't even start up, it just freezes at the Sirius logo. Then when I finally do get it on it doesn't stay on long, the audio freezes and/or the unit turns itself off. I have tried the 3 finger reset 2 times and it has not fixed the issues.

So, right now I'm pretty much stuck listening to Sirius Internet Radio as I try to decide which radio to get, but it won't be the S50 or the Stiletto for that matter (too expensive for me).

Three isn't too bad, I've gone thru SIX! Warranty support is so screwed up that they keep Emailing me that my replacement is ready after they already sent me two within one week. The current one I have is already starting to show the "no signal" problem. When this one dies (which I'm sure it will) I'm not sure if I'm sticking with Sirius anymore.

I went through 3 as well and have a 4th one sitting here that won't connect to a computer. I'm with you- screw the S50. Thank god for the Stiletto.

I was just at the North American Auto Show in Detroit and not one S50 in their Sirius display. I can't say I was shocked, though. I was going to attempt to discuss with the Sirius employee, but he was too busy trying to sell a couple on the service... Didn't feel like waiting around. I just can't believe how quickly this device went into the crapper for Sirius
I haven't had as many problems as the people in this thread, but I'm really happy I bought the BB warranty plan... I'm waiting to see what's going to come out after the Stiletto to trade mine in on...

gumby,

It's actually odd, it seems the older ones actually work better than the newer ones! Perhaps because they're trying to do too much with the new ones? I dunno.

Anyways, I have to have one with a pause/rw/ff feature, couldn't live without it! Ok, I could live, but it would be he**.

I agree with this. Every time I'm listening on the internet, I always attempt to pause it when I need to get up and then realize that I can't. I'm so spoiled by this...

Hey, I was at the Detroit Auto Show yesterday, too. Do you think we might have ran into each other?

After having problems with my first unit that I got last December, I have been pretty happy with my replacement. Happy enough that I bought one for my wife's car this December. It may not be perfect and some people have had more problems than others, but there was no alternative if I wanted something i could record on. I would've never gotten as much enjoyment out of Sirius this past year without the S50.

Just my 2 cents...

Any more than 3 and you qualify for a return under BB and CC extended warranties. Both of these big box warranties have a Lemon provision.

I got full amount on the return, paid for the Stilletto.

Risking bad karma here but mine has been fine...bought in early Dec. 2005. I did have to do a 3-finger reset once due to the "data error" but even the infamous firmware update went OK.

Was it set to Larry instead of Joe Besser? I mean, when you have to deal with Satellites named Moe Larry Curly you have to have some sort of inbetween.

Ok fine, set it to Shemp and be done with it!
