Angry S50 a waste of Money.. It's pure Junk

21/01/2007 Monterey Peninsula CA

Well I am here again today to post my latest update about my S50 Sirius Radio. I have this particular Receiver setup in my Acura. I have tried so many different things to get the Reception to come in clearly.
I have even tried different Antennas. Nothing works.
I then phoned Sirius Tech. Support and they suggested that I try to get a Cassette Adapter to play the music directly into my Cars Radio. The Adapter didn't work. Then they suggested trying to have the Receiver hard wired into the Radio. That also doesn't work with this type of Acura Car Radio.
Well yesterday Saturday the 20th I spoke with a young Lady from Tech. support. I told her that I was looking at different Sirius Antennas. Anyway she suggested to me, to try the Home Dock style Antenna that comes with the Home Dock Kits or the Boom Boxes.
The Signal for Satellite when using the new Antenna is at 100%. When I use the Micro Antenna I hardly get any signal at all. And I have moved the Micro Antenna to just about every location possible on my Acura.
What kills me is that I have an Audiovox PNP3 Receiver in my House. This Radio never has lost a signal nor has it ever had any problems.
I think the New Radios and Receivers being made lately for Sirius just don't have the Quality they once did.
What I also think stinks is that Sirius is well aware that their Customers are so Unhappy with the service and the quality of products. Sirius needs to get their Heads removed from their Hind Ends (Back side) and start taking notice of what their Customers are saying.
Before I would have recommended Sirius to anyone looking for outstanding Radio. But now I don't recommend Sirius at all.
If you look at my other Posts you can see that I have tried several different Sirius Receivers and all of the ones I have tried have been pure Crap.
(Stratus, Starmate 4, S50)
My Brother and his friends all have XM Radio and none of them so far have experienced this terrible type of service that Sirius provides us and their customers with.
Anyone who reads this post today before going out and buying a Sirius Receiver do alot of research for your general area... Compare both XM and Sirius Satellite Radio. Seems like XM is the better of the 2....

The S50 can be a pain sometimes, glad you like XM, maybe you should start chatting at an XM website or in the Siris Galaxy forum. For me, XM was not even an option, they don't have Howard.

And as for Howard Stern: Can't stand him

Default Hey JG189 Sorry but I returned the S50 to the Store

JG189

I took back the S50 to the Store. I didn't want anyone else to have problems with it...

Also the Remote didn't work.... Whats real sad is that it was less than a month old...

Have a good week JG... maybe try to look on Ebay or Craigs list

Did you try using an FM direct antenna relay?
The radio in my Scion tC couldn't get a good signal from my S50 too, when I first installed it in my car, so I got the FM direct gizmo. It was like day and night! My S50's been working in my car flawlessly so far.
I've been seeing posts in this site that noted Sirius must have been forced to lower the transmitting range on their later made units, because the previous one violated some kind of FCC rule that limits transmitting power. I think that what we are all dealing with signal-wise lately.

Post Thanks for the recommendation Chombi... 22.01.2007

Hey Chombi,

Well now I have XM and Sirius both. I like the channels better with Sirius.
Anyway as for the S50 I don't have that same one anymore. In my house I use an older Audiovox that has a Boom Box.... Works awesome....

Now in my Acura I just got a new Pioneer CD Deck with Sirius or XM ready...
Have the XM on it plays thru the Aux. of the Deck... The Sirius that I will get again will also play thru. the Aux. input on the Deck.... Think I am going to get the Stilletto.... Not sure.... Anyway Chombi have an awesome day and a great week.....

I would say both XM and Sirius Blow, but I have Sirius for Howard and thats the only reason. I use DMX when I listen at home. I record the Stern show with my S50 and listen later with headphones.

Default update on my S50 situation and how its doing now.

Well the new S50 that I had replaced in my Acura seems to be doing real well. I use the Home Dock Style Antenna which sits on my Dash and the Signal is great. 100%
What impresses me about this Forum and Chat are the awesome members.
I had several of you contact me with great advise and different alternatives. Can't say thanks enough.....
Well the new Pioneer Stereo Deck I had installed in my Acura works great with the S50. I plug the S50 directly into the Pioneer Deck and the sound and Signal are perfect....
Anyone of you who want a good recommendation for an inexpensive CD AM/FM Stereo unit with Aux inputs for either your Satellite Receivers or MP3 players should look at Pioneer.... All of you have a great one and Thanks again for your help and advise......

March 2007...

First I want to say Thanks to those of you who contacted me with advice and tips for the S50..
With my new Stereo Deck and having the S50 directly connected to the Aux jack the S50 is working great..... I just hope the S50 will continue to work as well as my old Audiovox which is 3 years old now......

Given all the well-documented problems with the S50 are you surprised by your experience? You had to have known you we're rolling the dice at best. If you wanted to stay away from problems why wouldn't you have gone with the Stiletto?
