The Montreal Canadiens have led the entire NHL in attendance 3 of the last 4 years, bringing in about 20,000 people per game.

The Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL bring in about 40,000 people per game.

I'm aware of the numbers thanks as I have been to all the cities but you can't compare to southern Florida market and all those Eastern Canadians that flock there in winter to add to the population temporarily.

Has the popularity of the CFL ever reached the peak it had during the Ron Lancaster days? I don't think so. Didn't I read that the Esks or Stamps were in financial difficulty?
I'm well aware of the rule differences, thank you. Larger field, more players per side etc. Which doesn't make a heckuva difference when you're listening to it on the radio.

And there are far more American players going to Canada to play, then there are Canadian players going to the NFL. So the CFL will always have a strong talent pool.

Can you say "Doug Flutie", six-time CFL Most Outstanding Player and three-time Grey Cup Most Valuable Player?

Edmonton (metro population appr. 1 million) Eskimos of the CFL bring in about 40,000 people per game.

Montreal (metro population appr. 3.5 million) Canadiens of the NHL bring in about half that many people at appr. 20,000 people per game.

The CFL is in good enough financial condition that they currently have plans to add another team.

And thanks to Dish Network, DirectTV and multiple major cable TV networks---the CFL actually gets pretty respectable TV coverage in the U.S.

Of course I remember Flutie and how he saved the Lions time after time. He did the same for the Chargers down here along with his Flutie Flakes.

In southern california, the abysmmal cable companies Cox and Time Warner don't offer any CFL coverage.

I agree they kinda suck.

But Cox and TW do carry the CFL in certain parts of the country.

Thanks for the jpeg. There are two Fox channels in LA and one in San Diego and nothing unfortunately.

this contract will be BIG in Canada since hockey is so big there--I think most would want to watch in on TV but this might cancel out the Howard effect

The link above does say 2007-08, not next season. I hope this is correct. I would hate to lose NHL before I have even heard Game 1 on SIRIUS.
