My biggest thing is that Sirius has always had the perception of being the satellite radio you would want if you like sports. Now Im afraid that perception will be gone and Sirius will lose numerous possible subs.

even before xm did the nhl deal they still claimed they offered the "most sports coverage of the two companies" (technically true being the amount of baseball games played in a season + fox sports net and sporting news radio)

people will leave sirius for nhl as people will leave xm for nascar.... I dont however see the exodus from either being anything that will drastically sub numbers...

The NBA Finals are on ESPN Radio which IS on XM 140. Sirius does have quite a lineup. But so does XM. XM has (right now) ESPN Radio, ESPNEWS, FOX Sports Radio, Sporting News Radio, NASCAR, PGA, XM Deportivo (soccer, boxing, etc. in Spanish), IRL, MLB, NHL, and the U.S. Open. They'll also have the FIFA World Cup of Soccer in 2006 (?).

Actually I think XM is required to blackout all NFL and NBA games that come on ESPN Radio.

I think that it is closer to even. In terms of popularity and being good on the radio I would rank them as follows.

1. MLB
2. NFL
3. NASCAR
4. NCAA Football
5. NCAA Basketball
6. NBA
7. NHL
8. Everything else.

I'm curious to see what numbers you are looking at. Chicken scratches written on the back of a napkin in red Crayon do not count as numbers.

The NBA is one of the laziest leagues I've ever watched, until it gets around the playoffs. It's not even on the same planet as the MLB, NFL or even NASCAR.

Don't get me started on the NHL. I didn't care for it anyway, since there wasn't a professional team where I grew up. But, the strike is going to kill that league. It took years for MLB to return to what it was, the NHL may never be the same.

I sure swore I was listening to the Pistons vs Spurs in this years NBA finals on ESPN radio XM 140. Good thing you two are here to tell me differently.

Wrong. The NFL games are not broadcast on ESPN Radio (unless maybe your local terrestrial ESPN affiliate carries a certain team or Westwood One broadcast). I listened to the NBA (including the finals) on ESPN Radio (XM 140) all season last year. Listen to ESPN Radio on Sirius this season and you'll hear what I'm talking about.

If they had The Coca Cola Football League, German Football, Major League Soccer, Six & Tri Nations Rugby Union, Some Rugby League, Formula 1, Champ Car and ECHL Ice Hockey then I'd be a happy camper , but I'm asking too much........

Default XM has a better lineup

For me its not about the live events. I have TV for the live events that I want to see as I am fortunate enough to live in the state of the teams I follow.

I am more impressed with XMs Sports Talk line up. As a dual subscriber, Sirius isn't even close. ESPN is unnecessary. It is on every AM dial already. I am not a fan of Sportsbyline. NFL radio can get old, quickly. Sportingnews and Fox Sports are such a nice option to have!

In my opinion, having two major non-ESPN NATIONAL (sportsbyline does not feel national to me) 24x 7 sports talk networks weighs heavily in XMs favor.

At least in my use of sat radio, XMs "sports" lineup is superior...

At this point I think XM has the edge in Sports coverage & especially talk

- MLB
- NHL (started coverage this week)
- Nascar (until '07)
- PGA Golf
- ACC, Big 10, PAC college sports
- Indy Car Racing
- Fox Sports Radio
- Sporting News
- U.S. Tennis Open
- NBA Finals (ESPN feed)
- World Cup Soccer

Not to say that Sirius isn't impressive because their sports line up is impressive.

- NFL
- NBA
- NHL (until '07)
- English Soccer
- Wimbeldon Tennis
- NCAA college sports
- Sports Byline

Isn't this all going to come down to each person's personal preferences? I just re-activated my Sirius unit right before the XM/NHL announcement just in anticipation of the NHL season. Big NASCAR fans will obviously leave XM in 2007. Big NHL fans will leave Sirius. I think this is all a matter of personal taste.

In terms of who has the most sports, that would clearly be XM with the 2 extra sports networks and the sheer number of games covered. But I don't think every sports fan will automatically subscribe to XM.

It is interesting though how Sirius was once the dominant sports provider of the 2 companies. It wasn't even close. XM had NASCAR and the extra talk channels while Sirius had the NFL, NBA, and NHL. I wonder why they didn't lock the NBA and NHL down with exclusive contracts like they did the NFL??
