Default Michael Irvin... did he do it?

Michael Irvin was arrested for having drug paraphenalia in his vehicle. He claims it was a friend's... Should we believe him?

For some reason, I believe it was one of his friends. However, it was very interesting to hear him on the Dan Patrick show and on NFL Countdown tonight. They both asked him the same questions and basically in the same order. Dan Patrick even tried to press him to take a drug test. I can see that on Sportscenter now, "and next up Michael's results live!"

From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette this morning:

"When police in Plano, Texas, found a marijuana pipe in Michael Irvin's car, the former Dallas Cowboys star said it belonged to his brother, contradicting statements he made to the media.

"It's my brother's, he left it in there," a police officer quoted Irvin as saying in a court document obtained by The Dallas Morning News.

The officer also wrote that the pipe and plastic baggies with marijuana residue were found in a Versace sunglasses case under a driver's seat compartment.

Irvin, an NFL analyst for ESPN, told The Associated Press Sunday, and repeated in an interview yesterday with ESPN Radio, that the pipe belonged to a friend with a drug problem."

He better hope it's NOT his...otherwise he be out of a job.

I would tend to believe that it is someone elses'. I don't think Irvin is that stupid to screw something up.

Uh... and why not? From the ESPN website:"In 1996, Irvin pleaded no contest to felony cocaine possession in exchange for four years of deferred probation, a $10,000 fine and dismissal of misdemeanor marijuana possession charges. He also was arrested on drug possession charges in 2000, but they were later dropped."

I am sure it was Irvins. All he is doing is trying to save face by putting blame on someone else. Even if it is someone elses he should be found just as guilty as this "friend". If he was stupid enough to let him have it in his car then he should pay for it.

I hope he loses his job. He is worthless.

No doubt it was his stuff. He's had a history of drug use and abuse. ESPN knows this...everyone knows this.

I don't think he should lose his job though. Fire away at that comment.

I'll take the first shot....

I have a 17 year old son who is a pretty good athlete. He watches ESPN all the time. You better believe all this stuff about steroid use and drug use by athletes forms an opinion in his mind.

I can only hope that he is smarter than these guys and realizes that using drugs is not the way to success.... but when he sees people like Michael Irvin, and he isn't the only one, stay successful after drug convictions and other extra curricular "activities" I don't doubt that he is thinking that in addition to being 17 and indestructible, he is also an athlete and beyond reproach.

And that, frankly, scares the hell out of me. I only hope he listens to his dad more than Sports Center. And any of you with teenagers know how likely that might be.

If he's willing to take a drug test and passes, then I'll believe him...otherwise, no. And since he hasn't done that yet, I doubt he will.

Excellent suggestion... and I agree with you, I doubt it will happen.

If he aggrees to a drug test it would be under his terms and I am sure it would not be that hard for him to cheat the drug test system and pass it.

unless irvin's brother had borrowed his car why else would the marijuana paraphanalia be under the drivers seat?
