Default NFL Network

I'm so pissed!!! I upgraded to digital cable for one reason, the NFL channel. My cable company, Insight, has the NFL channel but will not show us the games, they don't want to pay the extra money. Just wanted to rant.

Don't even get me started about cable companies.

I hate cable companies, the picture quality sucks and the prices are high. What pissed me off the most is that only some of the "Digital Cable" channels are actually digital.

Time to get satellite my friend. I have had Dish and Directv both and I prefer Directv plus they have the NFL ticket.

Actually, my Comcast picture quality is far, far superior to the picture quality in both SD and HD that I was getting with DirecTV. Trust me, I'm not fan of cable, or Comcast, and I hear that cable quality differs in many areas, so we may be the exception here. However if one must have NFL Sunday Ticket, then it's pretty likely that picture quality may not be the deciding factor...

When I was in Houston the analog channels with the "Digital" package looked worse than the old UHF channels.

I have been with Directv since around 1991 (I think) other than a brief time with Dish and even a shorter time with Cable.

I think one day the NFL Channel will be the only place to see games.

Default NFL Network

This is going to be a long term pissing contest. NFL Network thinks they have a product that the public is going to demand. The cable companies think it is too high priced and want it on a different tier of service.

No one is going to win here, least of all the consumer. I agree with the poster who suggested just getting DTV or DishNet.

We had a similar battle here in Minneapolis over Victory Sports. But this was a local issue. I just see this one dragging on and on.

We watched the game last night on the NFL network. The picture quality sucked; it wasn't in HD; the banner at the top of the screen was way too big and placed a little low; and they had Bryant Gumbel. Otherwise, I enjoyed the game

Broncos owner, Pat Bowlen, has made that his personal quest.

I would just add the results as a disappointment for me! Bring on Jay Cutler; let's get ready for next year.

Here is what the cable companies send out to their office employees to help them with their canned responses:

"NFL Network Negotiations

BACKGROUND: **Blank Cable Company** continues to negotiate with the NFL Network to carry its pro football programming. The network now has begun an advertising campaign to try to get customers to pressure cable companies to carry the NFL Network. While the network will offer other programs, the primary concerns of customers generally center on viewing eight regular season NFL games (plus two pre-season games) that will be carried exclusively on the NFL Network. Viewers in the home cities of the two teams playing on an NFL Network game day will be able to see games on other networks. Viewers outside those teams’ cities must watch the NFL Network to see those eight games. To date, the NFL Networks’ demands in negotiations with **Blank Cable Company** are excessive. Please refer to the following talking points in answering questions from customers.

TALKING POINTS:

-- First, to be clear, **Blank Cable Company** pays networks like the NFL Network to carry their programs. (Many customers think **Blank Cable Company** and other cable companies get paid by the networks.)

-- The bottom line on NFL Network negotiations is this -- even with potential advertising dollars considered – the NFL Network’s demands to this point would force us to raise prices for every **Blank Cable Company** customer (not just football fans). In fact, we’d be more than happy to give up the minimal advertising revenues we’d receive, if the NFL Network would let us carry the channel for either free or on a digital sports tier.

n The NFL Network is not allowing us to carry the network on our digital sports tier, where sports fans, in particular, would bear the cost. The network is demanding we carry its programs on our expanded basic tier, a far more costly approach for **Blank Cable Company** and all of its customers.

n We also are not being offered an option that would allow sports fans or football fans to choose to pay for the NFL Network on a pay-per-viewer basis.

-- We negotiate with hundreds of networks. We must negotiate reasonable deals with all of them or else cable costs will skyrocket.

-- We will continue good-faith negotiations with the NFL Network.

FOR USE IF PRESSED FURTHER:

n The NFL Network is demanding that we pay prices up to four times what they proposed to charge us in monthly licensing fees before the network started carrying the eight live regular season NFL games.

n The advertising opportunities the NFL proposes to give us are no different than any other programmer and do not allow us to recoup the exorbitant costs proposed by the NFL Network.

n Lots of programmers want to be in expanded basic. The NFL Network proposal would literally require us to spend capital (or construction) dollars across the country to meet its demands. Again, in this case, this would be to accommodate a very limited and very specific portion of a much larger audience."

Default NFL Net

I too watched the game and was not impressed. They had been pimping this all day on various sports talk outlets--and I did not see the big deal. I know it is frustrating for people who can't see a game if they desire, but I really think this is not going to be settled for a long time.

Welcome to the club. I have Time Warner and they don't carry it either. Adelphia carried it on the digital tier as part of the digital plus package ($5 extra/month) but at least I could view it.

This so sucks....I missed a good Thanksgiving night game and will miss a great matchup this Thursday (Ravens vs Bengals).

I would get DirecTV in a minute however my apt building doesn't allow dishes.

So all we can do is hope that eventually the NFL network & cable companies come to some sort of agreement that doesn't gouge the customer....HA!!! don't hold your breath on that one!
