Angry Sirius Crapping on NFL Games

I listen to /watch the Packers religously, and with the help of my TiVo can synchronize the 37 second game delay on Sirius with the actual game on DirecTV.

Been fine for years ...

Yesterday, in the second half of the abomination with Detroit, Sirius decided to wait until almost the end of every commercial break in the game and then cover up the local content with their "balls in a wheelbarrow" announcer for 90 seconds promoting various inane Siriius sports stuff.

Every single play in the second half was joined late ..... sometimes by almost a minute.

Was this some 18-year-old "engineer" at Sirius trying out his skills or what?

Previous to yesterday, they just let the local provider run ...

Any idea what's up with this ???

Thanks for any insight !!

It looks pretty obvious.

Someone at Sirius decided they were giving away airtime to advertisers and not charging them for it, I suspect. They were probably laughed at when they tried to get paid for it. (Why would someone in Eugene Oregon want to listen to an ad for Mike's Mufflers in Kenosha, Wisc.?) So Sirius decided that, if they couldn't get paid for local ads broadcast nationwide, they'd put their own self-promotion on instead.

One of Sirius' weaknesses is a lack of scrambling ability. The situation will probably be improved as the season goes on. I definitely agree with you that rejoining the action late is very bad.

Yes, Sirius' timing gets "off" from time to time. It used to be MUCH worse.
