Sorta like Clemens...although roid use with him is iffy (but I doubt it). He's got one of the most stringent workout regimens of any athlete...ever...even in the off season.
The last part of what you wrote is something I read writers in the Bay Area media write, the part about Barry Bonds having one of the most stringent workout regimens of any athlete. I think the possibility of the Rocket using something to enhance his abilities to pitch(and be dominant) into his forties is something more than a possibility.

Nobody has ever been elected unanimously to the HOF. Not Ruth, or Gerhig, or Satchel Paige, and I doubt that anyone will ever get 100% of the vote.

To answer the question about why someone wouldn't vote. They will lock in on one stat that could be considered below the mark, and ignore all others. In Cal's case it's his .273 lifetime batting average. It's just silly but that's what they do.

There are 2 players that got 99%

Seaver and Ryan

I couldn't believe some of these numbers

Ruth 95% (if anyone should be 100 its the Babe)
Cy Young 76%
Koufax 87%
DiMaggio 89%
Clemente 93% (Disgraceful)
Jackie Robinson 78% (WTF!!!)
The Hammer 98%
Reggie 94%
Willie Mays 95%
Bob Gibson 84%
Johnny Bench 96%
Ted Williams 93%
