This game really ticked me off. The Chargers should not have lost this game. Going for the first down on 4th and 15 in the first quarter instead of kicking the 48 yd FG. LT only running the ball 23 times. Gates not being heavily involved until the 4th quarter. The stupid penalties. Parker's lost fumble.

The Chargers are the Eagles of the AFC.

what makes me scratch my head is HOW does Mcree NOT know to just knock the ball down on that 4th down play?

If you knock it down you get 15 yards of field position as opposed to taking the interception... and then fumbling the ball right back to the Pats?

The Chargers couldnt wait to lose that game.

Heres to hoping Peyton can get over the hump next week.

Tomlinson said he was upset that some Patriots were dancing on the Chargers logo at midfield after they had silenced the record crowd of 68,810 at Qualcomm Stadium and wrecked the Chargers' season.

"I would never react in that way. I was very upset," Tomlinson said. "When you go to the middle of our field and start doing the dance Shawne Merriman is known for, that is disrespectful. They showed no class and maybe that comes from the head coach."

Merriman did a spasmodic dance to celebrate each of his NFL-high 17 sacks.
That's all well and good but I think his reaction is all smoke and mirrors. He's distracting from the fact that they couldn't hold out for 5 more minutes.

The anger he has should be all toward his own team. Bad penalties, bad play calling, poor execution... With all the mistakes everyone has listed today on ESPN and all the other sport shows the Chargers controlled the entire game... Well almost. This is just LTs effort to distract everyone from placing blame on him and his team mates.

I like LT a lot but this (IMHO) puts him in a bad light but with his talent most won't even notice. I feel bad for the Chargers but even though Brady didn;t have a good game he found a way to bring his team back to win. That's the difference between a good and great QB. Sorry but the better team won.

In the moment of the play, who knows what he was thinking. And much like the NBA, making the ESPN highlight reel is a big deal. A big game winning interception makes a better story for Mcree.

There is no "in the moment of the play" if its 4th down... you knock the ball down.

Its like taking the force out at first base with a man on third and 2 outs...

Like I said, this is from an article at ESPN

Quote:
On fourth down it is the responsibility of the coaching staff to remind defenders not to intercept! Before a key fourth down in our middle-school flag league this fall, I screamed to my players: "Knock it down! Do not intercept!" My 11-year-old, Spenser, had a perfect bead on a pick and instead slapped the ball to the ground. After the game he said, "Dad, I really wanted the interception, but I knew you knock it down on fourth down." Why didn't San Diego's professionals know this? Why didn't the highly paid San Diego coaches remind them? Before a fourth-down snap by the opponent, coaches are supposed to scream, "FOURTH DOWN! KNOCK IT DOWN!"

Taking football insight from Greg Easterbrook is suspect at best.

This makes more sense:

"McCree was asked about the interception decision and said that he’d think about knocking the ball down in a 2-minute situation where the incompletion would end the game, but not otherwise. I think that’s a completely reasonable decision on a play where you’re coming up on a fairly short pass, it hits you right in the numbers and you have a chance at a decent return and better field position with plenty of time left in the game. Sure, you should take better care of the football, but by logical extension perhaps a defender should always drop to a knee after an INT at the first sign of potential contact."

yeah, I bet the good folks at ESPN pay him to do Football analysis even though he knows absolutely nothing about the game... thats sarcasm btw.

I am willing to bet you never heard of "Greg Easterbrook" before yesterday, and you clearly dont know anything about the game of football, so I'll just retire from this conversation here.

Football Outsiders >>> Greg Easterbrook

Repetitive and slanted analysis doesn't mean he knows anything about the game.
