Default Best of XM: MLB on Sirius

For those of you who are disappointed in XM's current Best of package Sirius subscribers, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Please see the response I got from XM's Senior Vice President of Music Programing...

"It simply has to do with the MLB rights. We're working on it and hope to make it available soon. Customer care can answer the adding option packages.

Thanks.

My guess is "soon" means when the new radios are released. Even then, I doubt it will work on the current tuners.

That is the deal breaker for me to stay/leave Sirius.

If they require sirius subs to buy new hardware just to get MLB (as part of a la carte) I will likely leave Sirius.

As it is I just cancelled my second radio because they did not offer a good enough "best of" (who really listens to golf on radio?). If they only make the MLB as part of a la carte, after making NFL and Howard available on XM immediately, I will be gone.

Really a terrible disservice to Sirius listeners to give more to XM subs. Who is calling the shots here? I thought Mel was head of Sirius and now of SiriusXM.

Way to treat your customers.

I do agree. MLB should be a part of the best of XM because it is the best of what they have. Without MLB, the best of pack isn't worth the cash. On the other hand, I would go for the pack if they added MLB. If they say that you have to buy new radios just to get baseball....I won't do it. I actually wanted MLB this season for the playoffs.

Exactly how I feel...I'm canceling my sub if MLB is not included in some way, shape, or form in the Best of or in the a la carte options (at a reasonable price, of course).

I ranted to "customer care" when I cancelled my family plan radio and told the rep that they can expect a total cancellation if the MLB does not make it's way to the "best of XM" plan after the contractural issues are worked out between MLB and XM (which I believe to be the reason why it wasn't immediately available).

Let me state that my assumptions can be wrong but..

The Best of XM package for Sirius radios was said to have 10 channels.

1) How can 10 channels be capable of carrying all MLB games?
2) Why would anyone pay for package if it is constantly preempted during baseball season?

EDIT. Just viewed the package, not seeing anything that would suffer by being preempted ubless you are a O A & O junkie

I really wish that there was some difinitive word on whether it will be available. At the very least, mantioning that it would be part of a possible best of XM package once the MLB deal could be reached.

No word makes me suspicious that they will hold out and make listeners to buy new radios.

I also noticed NBA listed in the best of XM package. There is a lot of uncertainty on the best of XM and makes it very unlikely I would sign up in early October.

What bothers me with the current XM/Sirius exclusivity is that even "national" games are not carried. ESPN radio has exclusive radio coverage of Sunday night baseball, but cannot air it on Sirius' ESPN Radio broadcast. Likewise, the "national" radio feeds of NFL games do not appear on XM.

Perhaps that is all that will get added to the "Best of" packages in the sport department - just the "national" broadcasts (with constant ads encouraging people to subscribe in full to both services).

I would rather keep his email private because it was given to me by an employee....but essentially what I asked him was anything he could say regarding MLB eventually being on the Best Of, etc. and that was his response with the contract issues.

Regarding O&A....i actually read somewhere that MLB might not have been implemented in the first round of "Best of" because Sirius is using this as a "test run" for O&A to try and see what their demand is like (because there is an obvious expected rush of XM subscribers getting the Best of Sirius because of Howard/NFL).

I am not going to cancel my sub or anything because I have a lifetime and one additional radio as a Sirius sub. I can't live without it frankly. They have added Maddog and Howard is still good. I love the music and couldn't ever go back to reg radio at this point. But the fact remains that if I was a XM sub, I would jump at the best of Sirius pack. It really is very good. That being said, the best of XM pack is really very bad. They do have the NBA listed as XM when it was Sirius last year. Did they think that people wouldn't notice that?
It really pays to be an XM sub right now because you will be able to get the best of Sirius and the rest of Xm.

All you guys who are going to cancel if MLB is not part of the "best of" make me laugh. Were you going to cancel if they didn't merge? Just don't get the "best of" package if you don't like it. The reason the "best of" Sirius is better than XM is the same reason most of you are Sirius subscribers and not XM subscribers- that is, Sirius has better content.

Having said that- I am hoping the best of XM includes a lot of their college sports. Sirius' college football simply sucks since they lost the SEC. If they can get that back, they will get $4 more a month from me.

i would never cancel my sirius sub just because the best of package is skewed so heavily towards favoring the xm side of things and because i wouldn't get baseball. if anything all things being equal it stands now, i would be more inclined to not go with the best of package and continue on with just sirius programming as-is. i got sirius for my own reasons, and right now those reasons still apply.

if i were as pissed off as many appear tobe in this thread, i would be so sol right now because i just went lifetime the day merger closed.

i just counted the total number of play-by-play channels on the lineup for both sirius and xm on the sirius lineup. i count 16 total channels that list play-by-play in the discription.

it is possible to have every baseball team play at the same time and not have a problem finding space on the dial during the season. i have no idea how many football games are played at once on sundays (not a football fan) or how many college teams have deals with sat radio, but it looks like they may be able to handle it. and if they need to use a few channels that are in existance now or make a few to handle the load, it looks okay.

contract issues had better be the only thing that will hold this up.
