Personally, I believe a merger is only a matter of time. I've been saying that for a couple of years. The sole reason? Neither company is making money on their own.
You think Sirius or XM WANT to be in competition with each other?
Sure, competition is great for the consumer but I seriously doubt the board at either service would take that into consideration.

For the short term, a merger would be a positive. The birds are already up there so I could foresee an XM/Sirius tuner capable of receiving content from both services. The subscription fee would probably take a hit to $15 but hey, you'd be getting $26 worth of content. I'd be able to listen to Major League Baseball AND the NFL.

In the long term, once satellite radio has established itself, lack of competitors would allow the merged company to name their own price - say $29.95/month - and like cable TV and telephone service, we would all grudgingly pay it.

Mel's been mentioning a merger for months. I mostly blew his comments off thinking it was just his way of trying to bump up SIRI.. But now that XM has seemed to warm up to the merger idea I think it's only a matter of time before they merge.

Would there be DJ's on the music channels?

This is just the programming aspect, not the technological aspect. But lets say you're limited to about 150 channels, which is roughly an average between the number on Sirius and the number on XM.
Merger wont change a thing..

Did the merger with Nextel and Sprint require you or I to replace our phones, services, or plans....NOPE.... Just higher rates and customer service that got cut in half and customers who are confused out of their mind on what phone company they really have.....

lets hope it doesn't happen

If its going to happen which i don't think it will but I would need to have Sirius Hits 1, The Pulse, The Coffee House, Classic Rewind, Alt Nation, Spa 73, Hip Hop Nation, basicly every Sirius Channel. From XM just UPOP becuase BBC Radio 1 doesn't even compare. If XM killed Sirius's programing I would have to leave and get a Zune

Instead of doubling the music, why not double the quality?

Then, maybe I'll pay more.

The guys over there think XM has better music than Sirius and I think vastly differently. Sirius's music is vastly better than XM.

I have 2 thoughts on this merger talk (I havent really ever weighed in too much)
IF Sirius were to take over XM, and competition heated up from internet radio, why wouldnt Mel just ditch a whole set of stations (ie dump all of xm's, or pick the best from each) and then use the extra bandwidth for his somewhat ill concieved video plan?

IF they feel that competition would be too light, whats to say a company couldnt buy the subscriber base and sell out the other companies bandwidth to another company wishing to get into the business. Again, lets say for arguments sake Sirius buys out XM. Then, Sirius could sell the bandwidth to pay for giving out free radios to the customers that need to change. All the sudden you have 14 million subscribers, and lower overhead.

I'm so pissed, I just lost an hour's worth of brainstorming over this issue with my flavour of the merged playlist which I had put a lot of thought into and damned! I hit the BACK button on my mouse and lost everything! I've got to start again.

If only text etries were cached somehow!

Use the Opera browser. It always caches what you have just loaded on a page. Hitting the back button on your mouse is no prob then. Hell, you can even close the browser down and then open it back up again and it will load your last page you had open intact!

Default How could O&A work with Stern?

Big trouble here! O&A are arguably the heir apparent for the aging Stern franchise. They probably will not take a second string role with Stern. O&A are a XM franchise. You figure it out...
